So what's the moral of this movie?
That if you ever become a tv star, don't let a creepy hanger-on like John Carpenter stick around for sloppy seconds? Phrew! Thanks for the warning, Paul.

How could you ask that question? The moral is pounded home with a sledge hammer. It's a typical Schrader film; he's obsessed with sex but has to find stories to portray sexual transgressions being punished. (American Gigolo, Comfort of Strangers, Auto Focus, Mishima)
This movie ain't deep.
Why does a movie have to have a moral? This isn't Catholic school.
shareHilarious! Great post even though it's over 5 years old. LOL!

The moral is: Video killed the radio star.
shareSex kills!
LOOOVE the dream sequence on the set of Hogan's Heroes. Great movie, one of my favorites

Ha-ha, great answer!
But seriously....the moral is: sex can be as much of an extreme addiction as food, alcohol, drugs, shopping or using an electronic gadget while walking into oncoming traffic!
Though you have to wonder, why is sex still such a taboo clandestine subject? If it weren't so taboo, people wouldn't still be using sex as a bartering tool etc. People might openly watch porno today, but behind their backs some of their friends probably don't approve.
Sex and morality issues have brought down nations, look at the extremism in certain countries which have ridiculously high morality standards, yet their 'religious' men think nothing of chopping off a person's head or burning and stoning a woman who had sex outside marriage!
In the US, sex still carped about ad nauseum by the Religious Right wingnuts, who continue to shove their biased prejudiced views people with alternate lifestyles, down everyone's throat. Meanwhile, a lot of these men are closeted, yet there they are mouthing off in public about how wrong being gay is. Lots of people are from the "Do as I say, not as I do" school of thought.
Hypocrisy is everywhere!
Sex will ALWAYS be a hot button topic because it's still treated as if it's something wrong, something not to be talked about, yet when you tell someone not to do something....then want to do it even more.
You do have to wonder, had Bob Crane not been a family man, would his sexual exploits have been as acceptable as the single Hugh Hefner's? After all, their heights of fame were during the same era.
The popularity of Playboy and it's acceptance into the mainstream: serious interviews included in a magazine with nude pictorials, made Hefner a household name, he made sex acceptable. Crane, on the other hand, seemed to immensely enjoy the fact that he had this bizarre double life, that what he was doing was underground and sleazy. He seemed to take great delight in his secret life, hinting about it to many.
There was something really depraved going on with Bob Crane and his sexcapades, lots of men and women cheat on their partners, which isn't to say it's OK, but they do. Crane's overly creepy aspect of this double life, was his need to film his sexcapades, then watch the tapes over and over again......while sitting in his basement masturbating with his straight male friend. It's as if he did want to get caught. I don't remember if Crane's wife was upstairs during that scene.
Didn't Crane's wife wonder what was going on in his private room, the sex magazines on the coffee table and the stacks of tapes? Talk about being oblivious!
Moral Of The Story: Don't become so obsessed with any behvior to the extent that you will engage in it regardless of the negative consequences to yourself and others.

A lot of people think Crane was murdered by a jealous husband or boyfriend of a woman he had sex with. That murder investigation was seriously botched.
shareA moral to this movie? Watch who you let into your life, and spend time with. Also be more selective in your lifestyle choices. R.I.P. Bob.
