No more sequels?
True that Goldmember was not the best sequel but why did the series end? All they need is a funny script and the film would be successful. Not all Bond films were terrific yet the series thrived. Why no more Austin?

shareThere had always been talks about a 4th installment. Unfortunately, a year after this movie came out, THE CAT IN THE HAT came out. Everyone hated it. Mike wouldn't try a live-action lead role again until THE LOVE GURU, which was an even bigger flop. When that happens, studios lose faith in the actor's star power and don't hire them anymore. Now, it's been over 10 years. Young audiences might not recognize the franchise's name, so no one wants to fund it. Also, there's not a finished script. I doubt there's even a first draft.
shareThe real reason why Mike Myers doesn't get hired that much these days is that he developed a reputation (dating at least, as far back as his Wayne's World days) as a gigantic a$$hole!

Oh, yeah, I had read about it. I assumed that, since the reputation began in the early 1990s and he kept working for 10-15 years, either it wasn't true or he wasn't that bad.
shareMyers' reputation at work means little since the ends justified the means, he may have had his off moments on the job but at the end of the day he made studios money and helped create crowd pleasing work. After Cat in the Hat and The Love Guru he just didn't possess "it" anymore and lost mainstream appreciation. Shrek sequels, the documentary he produced, his cameos on SNL and in Inglorious Bastards have been the most success he's had since.
shareI can't imagine Mike Myers is starved for work.
I think one thing we can learn from Dieter/Sprockets is that Myers will not attach his name unless he truly believes in the project.
It also seems like Goldmember was intended to be the end of the series; the movie within the movie and the fact that all the villains from the first 2 films (doctor evil, fat bastard, mini me) become allies with austin by the end implies that Myers was unlikely to make another film. Now of course there is more material they could use, they can do the 80's (and now the 2010's) and with the presence of time travel, they can easily undo plot points from previous films.

What do you mean by "it"? Mojo? In any case, I agree - he has definitely lost whatever genius he had before. And he had plenty of 'it' in the past. Wayne's World is a hilarious classic, for example.
I’m surprised too that they never did a sequel. Not sure they can pull another one now, as the franchise has cooled off and Myers is likely aged.
International Man of Mystery was a fun movie
