Career Killer

Did this movie kill James Van Der Beek's chances of a movie career? It seems like when he decided to stop playing Dawson and the Golden Boy, the roles stopped coming in which is a shame since he was actually really good in this.

No it wasn't a career killer like you said he was decent in the role. James just never seemed to have much screen charisma past playing the teenage role. no acting range along with average looks = very limited roles.

I agree.

In my opinion, yes. That first “against-type” crossover role from TV to film is a crucial one. Jennifer Aniston did it right with The Good Girl. James Van Der Beek did it wrong with The Rules of Attraction. It’s an undeniably entertaining flick, and Van Der Beek is undeniably entertaining—not to mention sexy—in it, but it’s trash.

Yeah it was a bit of a career killer unfortunately for him, I notice Ian Somerhalder did all right, he appeared in "Lost" and had a good career I think.

This is the best performance James Van Der Beek has ever turned in!
