Does Anyone Prefer David Brent to Ricky Gervais?

Don't get me wrong, Ricky Gervais, unlike David Brent, is a comic genius, or at least a near-genius, but as human-beings, I find Brent's innocent, hapless, well-meaning obnoxiousness less aggravating than Gervais's intentional and knowing obnoxiousness/trolling. The latter is coming from a genuinely intelligent man who should know better. Oddly enough, I suspect that even Gervais, who has spoken sympathetically about his creation before, probably agrees with me that Brent is fundamentally a more likeable and nicer person than Gervais himself, albeit much less intelligent, capable or talented.

I totally dig Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes.. Please, take the 10 minutes and 22 seconds to enjoy Gervais destroying Hollywood at it's funniest..

Never get tired of seeing that. Gervais isn't really a favourite of mine (although he's done some great stuff), but that took some balls.

I never understood the 'Boss from Hell' tag everyone repeated for years.

He was a chilled out entertainer, would let you muck about so long as he wasn't left out or the butt of the joke, fair enough, would go to the pub in the afternoons.

One thing that isn't really realistic when you think about it is that nobody ever laughs at him even taking the piss. They all look dead serious into the camera. I would be wetting myself if my boss attempted stand up and came out with that Paper shop bit and then resorted to impressions of handicapped bloke out of desperation.
