Why did le tenia beat alex after he raped her?

What was the point? he already got what he wanted, and what was alex doing reaching back toward Le Tenia durring the rape?

reply

.. from my point of view, defacing, destroying Beauty- its power, its capacity to make him feel demeaned and impotent in the world, is what La Tenia wanted.

raping Alex and leaving her- outwardly- still beautiful, would mean he was leaving her with some of herself/her own power, intact.

he was incapable of even that little bit of ? mercy/compassion/humane-ness, fill in the blank--

Beauty itself enraged him.
and sexual release neither satisfies that rage nor is 'what he was after', in my opinion.

unfortunatly i hear this kinda thing happening in the news all the time....first comes the rape then comes the beating....

i live in detroit btw lol

reply

Yeah, I hear about it on the news here in jacksonville too. Usually not as bad though, as far as beaten to death.

reply

Thanks, good insight. I was kind of thinking along those lines. The scene was really brutal, and the beating topped it off. I usually dont like over the top violence, but this movie did say a lot with the violent scenes. It actually got me into other foreign films because of its boldness.

The azz rape was specific for that reason, as opposed to a vagina rape because he wanted to ensure that she suffered at his pleasure.

The beating was to press the fact that he hated her types and that he was taking revenge on all of the times he probably has been turned down by women other than bar flies and prostitutes.

Not even close in my opinion.

The guy was gay and disliked sex with women. That was pretty much clear as he even said so while he was raping her. Not to mention him saying "you're pretty hot for a c---" and other discussion in the film saying he was a known gay.

reply

I thought he was killing her so that she could never identify her attacker.

Rape is not about sex, it's about violence and hate. The beating was an extension of the rape, an act of furthur violence to destroy and demean another person.

Just repeating what everyone has pretty much already stated. Rape is about power, not sex. And the brutality for some rapists adds to the power and I assume the adrenaline rush a rapist experiences at the time fuels that violence.

reply

Raping is not about the sex, It's about power. Think about it.. If you just needed to get off, why would you rape someone and throw your whole life away running from the law? You either whack-off, find a friend, find a prostitute, etc. Who in their right mind goes, "I'm horny, think I'm going to rape someone!" People who rape do not think about consequences at that moment, they do not think about the laws and rules, and they do not think about the trouble they're getting themselves into like normal people would. It's because they're on a power trip. He defaces and beats her because it gives him power because he's sick. Another element to this is that she represents something he cannot have. You hear it over and over, his disdain for "high class." You ever hear stories of people getting their homes foreclosed? Well some people, just before they leave the premise, they will destroy the house. Why? It's something they cannot have anymore. Rage, jealousy, for things you cannot have in life. Some people take keys and scrape beautiful cars for fun, but subconsciously, it's because they can never afford or have such cars in their lives.

reply

I didn't know you were all rape experts...

reply

Just because one has knowledge on the general thought process of a rapist doesn't make us sick or "rape experts", dude. Hell, I learned about this in Health class back in High School. I thought it was common knowledge that rape was much more of a power thing than for sexual pleasure.

Getting off on her was only a part of what he wanted- which was to destroy her- and the rape was the first step.
Besides, his hatred probably became greater by the fact that he had used her to orgasm, as he seemed to hate women.

reply

He wanted to destroy her, completely. Leave his mark. Each time she looks in the mirror, she's going to relive this experience. F#ck.
