I liked Red Dragon and Manhunter about the same. They managed (between the two films) to capture a lot of the book.

Personally I think "Silence" is easily the best of the films, but "Red Dragon" will always be the best of the books. In a way I think it's a shame because whilst "Manhunter" was a great film most of the deviations from the novel were detrimental, and the ending was screwed (in particular the editing for the shootout was pathetic in places). I also think Ted Tally's script for "Red Dragon" was generally much better than Michael Mann's own adaptation, in fact I would go as far to say that the script for "Red Dragon" was even better than Tally's work on "Silence". If somehow I could change history I'd go back in time and give Michael Mann Tally's script... then we'd have the definitive Lecter article!
"Hannibal" is pretty decent and rather enjoyable in a 'guilty pleasure' sort of way. Like the book it just takes far too many trips to stupidsville and trashes a lot of the great work that Harris did with the first two. "Hannibal Rising" was pretty damn ordinary, the story was crap and the acting pathetic, however the cinematography and art direction were absolute first rate and the editing was rather good too (in a way this is the hardest thing to judge because maybe just maybe if it had a better edit it could have been a 'good' movie, but then again the source material was crap).
Hannibal, SOTL, Red Dragom, Hannibal Rising in that order
not seen manhunter.
Hannibal is my fave cos Hopkins has the most screen time and it was my favourite of the books :)

1.The Silence of The Lambs 10/10
2.Hannibal 8/10
3.Red Dragon 7.5/10
4.Hannibal Rising 7/10
5.Manhunter 6.5/10
The Silence of the Lambs is easily the best of the bunch for me, and one of the best thrillers of all times for sure. That being said, I really liked all the other ones except for Manhunter, which was good but kind of disappointing for me (some of the editing and the musical score were annoying to me). And I think Hannibal Rising is seriously under-rated: not a masterpiece, of course, but a really decent take on the origins of Hannibal, with a frightingly convincing performance by Gaspard Ulliel and an engaging performance by Gong Li.
