Apparently one episode is censored on the new Blu Ray set

Looks like it's a mistake where a censored version of an episode was used for this release, and people are pissed. If the same master were used for the HD versions on Hulu, it looks like this episode was indeed mastered using a censored version.

I get why some people are upset, because a definitive release should not be censored. That said, I'm not going to lose it over having a shorter version of Aceveda being assaulted. If that's the only slip-up, I can live with that.

That's pretty shitty. For a show famous and groundbreaking specifically for it's edginess and boundary pushing content. It's not like they're gonna fix it and put out a new blu-ray. This mistake is probably locked and archived forever.

I still got my TV rips from back in the day.

I'm much more endlessly upset over huge changes like Dawson's Creek dumping all its iconic music from the show cause they didn't want to pay for the rights to it. It completely obliterates the nostalgia factor.

reply

Yeah. I still have my DVD sets. And I get why people are upset. It's possible that they may re-issue replacement discs if enough people complain.

reply

There'll be the next thing. 8K. Whatever's after. Might get updated 50 years from now. Don't know why they can't get blurays right. They still mess up transfers and use the wrong versions of things all the time. And they just say oh well and ship it to shelves anyhow.

reply

It sucks, but Shawn Ryan was just made aware of the issue today, and he seems genuinely concerned about it. So you never know.

reply

What was censored and why are liberals upset now?

reply

20 seconds of a sexual assault scene is cut. The censorship was done back in 2004 for the European release of the show. Sony accidentally used that version of the episode when they remastered the series.

reply

What was the sexual assault scene?
And this scene was originally aired on tv?

reply

I believe the reference is to the scene where the gang banger forces Aceveda to fellate him. I can't say I'll miss watching the uncensored version.

reply

A scene where a gangbanger forces a cop to blow him at gunpoint.

It originally aired (uncut) on TV (at least here in the US on FX).

The scene is still on the remaster, but it's cut back. 20 seconds are missing from it.

Shawn Ryan said he felt censoring it takes away from the intended horrible feeling the scene brings with it.

reply

Crazy....

reply

I figured it was when Shane dropped an N bomb. The Aceveda assault brutal.

reply

Remind me of the aceveda assault?

Hearing the name I'm remembering he was the boss....annoying character

The details of how the scene is censored are listed here:

reply

Yikes , some dude made aceveda give him a BJ.

That's pretty crazy....and very gay...

reply

The best was his wife's response when he told her.

"Don't they train you against that?"

reply

Lol what a ride of a show.

Rewatching it now after all these years and the show had some great characters.

Looking now, Vick Mackey Is a dirty cop and cop killer. And I always rooted for him.

Aceveda is trying to do the right thing maybe too politically correct, but he seems like the hated character.

reply

Aceveda is as corrupt a politician as Mackey is a cop....

reply

Yeah that always cracked me up. She acted like he wanted it to happen.

reply

That article claims political correctness was crated by the right. Talk about rewriting history.

reply

Didn't Shane drop the N Bomb every few episodes?

reply

Cletus Vandamn

reply

Ha, no. I don't believe Cletus Vandamn, dropped the N Bomb.

reply

I'm guessing Benito Martinez asked for it to be censored.

reply

No. It was censored for a 2004 European DVD release and that version of episode was accidentally used for the 4K remaster
