Kavanaugh

I don't think I've ever witnessed a character that drew such raw emotion from me. Forest Whitakers portrayal of Jon Kavanaugh made me feel physically angry when watching it. I truly disliked the man as a human being. Anyone else have any characters from anything that really just made you get all up in your feelings? Haha

Me too, I hated him. I found myself shouting at the screen at times. He was very annoying to watch.

What made him "Annoying"? Give specifics.

reply

Seriously? Did you watch the show??

reply

I loved him. A great antagonist for Vic Mackey.

Let's be bad guys.

I hated and loved him at the same time when I first saw the show (watched it when it aired)

Watching it years later, he's hilarious. For good reasons. I love how insane he is.

But back when I first watched the show, he terrified me every time he was on the screen

Yeah, it was a real outstanding performance by Forest Whittaker in a show full of powerhouses (Chiklis, Goggins, CCH...) all of those four should've been nominated for emmys and golden globes for almost every year of The Shield, excepcionally between Season 5 and 7.

lol I'm surprised people disliked him so much. And it's ironic too, because Shawn Ryan (the showrunner) said the point of Kavanaugh's character was to reverse the perception a lot of people had of Vic being the anti-hero that everyone loves to root for, and remind people that he really isn't as good as people think or want him to be. Instead, it did just the opposite.

Wow, if that was really his intended purpose, then, yeah, they screwed up royally here.

I just started rewatching S5 and totally agree--phenomenal performance by the great Forest Whitaker.

I'm watching the show for the first time and have just reached Season 5, ep 9. I initially was enjoying Whitaker's character, but he's really starting to bug me now. I can't help but feel that there's a bit too much "acting" going on sometimes. I definitely think that Whitaker is an incredibly gifted actor and I've loved him in certain things (The Last King of Scotland for example) but here, not so much. The intensity just sometimes bugs and I'm finding the storyline rather unrealistic. I'm sure lots of people will disagree but it definitely is making Season 5a bit less enjoyable for me. In comparison, I thought Glenn Close last season was sublime. Loved her character and the whole season was terrific. From what I'm reading here, I get the feeling that Kavanaugh is going to get even more nuts as this season goes on, right?

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist.

I hated him with a passion
