Uh, were we supposed to take the fake white thugs seriously?

Was this meant to be a comedy, because it sure came across as one..."We be reppin the PLC". Uh, yea, in the middle of the valley. WTF?!? What is this garbage? It could've been a not-horrible movie but was ruined by the complete cheesiness of those stupid morons 'reppin the PLC'...

Anne Hathaway IS hot, though.

The point was to realize the shallowness of fake people who are clearly not who they intend to be. I found those characters to be amusing, because they are not so over the top nor far-fetched. I went to school with people like those. Not as extreme, but it is a movie which means everything is meant for entertainment. I was very satisfied with how the fake valley gansters contrasted with the true street gansters of downtown LA. Especially when the main fake thug pissed his pants while held at gunpoint, then brags to his thug friends the next day in HIGH SCHOOL. Of course, the story changed to his benefit with the drug dealer being the butt of the joke.

I really enjoyed this movie. Not as an eye opening, cinematic experience, but as a unique and interesting viewpoint of bored, teenage fantasies.

No we were not supposed to take them seriously. That is why they were portrayed as total morons from the get-go.
"Yo my dad shot a crocodile with this thing!"
That line made me crack up.

Kind of reminded me of Malibu's most wanted when the rich kids are scraping together all the weapons they could find, and one guy pulls out an elephant gun.

the one big problem of the movie is they made the gangsters way too nice... no way any real gangster is that nice as these guys were portrayed... if the director would of made the gangsters much more like real gangsters the movie would of had a greater impact.

Same here. Had that been real life there was no way in hell they would have stopped. That whole dice thing was a joke too. In reality she would have had to do every member of the gang three at a time while the rest stood around in a circle and watched. And Emily wouldn't have lived long enough to press charges.

"ya i don't think you were to take them serious"

Yes, we weren't meant to take them seriously, but we were at least supposed to believe they took themselves seriously, and were respected by their peers.

It seems like every character was directed to act like they were in a gritty drama, and those three thought they were in a comedy skit. We all knew guys in high school who tried to act "hood," but these three were so over the top they were a distraction, and one of the film's many flaws.

I know its been over 6 years since you posted that, but honestly, its a great post. You absolutely got the message of this movie.

not to step on anybodys feet or beliefs or what ever but some white kids try to act like another race, mostly like blacks..i dont understand why..and its not just whites many others do it also..but yeah in the movie they try to be these hard core dudes that arent really hard..to me a white boy living in the hills and going to private school isnt hard..i mean there are probably some tough white boys out there but the ones in this movie werent..

reply

some white people are just alot more cultured than the typical white person. And in my opinion that makes them the better white person.

I laughed so hard when that one dude told Allson she was out of the "gang." :-P

oh my god that scene where they're filming the video totally reminds me of malibu's most wanted.

Tobias Funke: I blue myself.
Michael Bluth: There has got to be a better way to say that.

Definitely !

"don't be hatin' !"

I think you missed the point OP. They are fake gangsters. They are a bunch of rich valley kids. They try to act tough and gangsta or whatever, but when they go to the hood, we see the truth.

reply

Yea I think they were supposed to be laughable and pathetic. I hear that kind of thing goes on out west and to a certain degree in northern virginia. here on most of the east coast though the white folk who act that way aren't rich they're just white trash. though in some ways its even funnier that way.

They not be-knowin' what the get-down be-like ... and You are right! Anne Hathaway is HOT !!!

I know kids like those portrayed in the movie....and I live in VT. These actors did a great job I think, because there are people who really think they are hard because thy wear sean john or fubu, and have sold some weed. As far as the gangsters being too nice, who says that every latino dude with tatoos and sells drugs, is willing to beat up and rape a couple of girls? He takes her around and shows that people live real lives in his neighborhood; its not like he was a complete caricature gangster.

I thought the point of the movie was for us to not take PLC seriously. Am I wrong here?

I just watched it again today and I just realized that the two whiteboys. Are gonna be in GIJOE the live action movie. Joseph Gordon Lovett is playing Cobra Commander and Channing Tatum is playing Duke.

It's worse man. They weren't supposed to be from The Valley. They were supposed to be from The Palisades, which is a VERY wealthy part of town. These kids were complete poseurs.

This movie seemed as if it was made to tell white kids...hey....dont act this way(i.e the general public sees this as acting black)...see how stupid it is?

but there are white people who were are raised in urban areas and act according to their environment and in no way act this silly and arent percieved to be silly by other blacks they grew up around

made by some idiot who only sees things through the public media(i assume)

dont think i got my thoughts out clearly but its pretty early im sleepy and thats what came to mind when seeing these actors being told to go overboard w/ the acting to make it seem stupid....w/e

You know, I never had kids so I didn't know whether there really were kids like this! The boys seemed too over-the-top to be serious, but I couldn't tell how seriously the girls took gangsta culture. Ali in particular seemed to be humoring her boyfriend.

It was weird to see the girl from "She's Too Young" as one of the girls who drives "East" with Ali and the rest.

I was an actor once, damn it. NOW look at me. LOOK at me!

I grew up in Westchester, and I had a choice between going to Westchester High or Pacific Palisades...I chose the former, however at times I commiserated with kids from PP. Sadly, some of the kids from palisades were actually THAT bad. The wiggers, the sluts etc... Their afternoon activities consisted of "bagning on some fools" and doing lines off the trunk of their brand new Volvos. It was a little OTT but definitely not out of the ballpark.
