This is all personal preference. I found Madison completely off-putting. While her body was more womanly, her jawline was very manly. Amy is more dainty and her face was more pleasing to look at. Plus she wasn't bat *beep* crazy.

Choosing looks is exactly how a good person can end up involved with someone just as crazy as the Madison character was. There's no way I would have chosen her over Amy. Say what you want about her looks but if you ask me she was beautiful, and actually caring. They had a good relationship which is something that is never worth messing up.
