Requiem For A Spun-Spotting

Rate the 3 best drug-induced movies (other than ones to do with weed) in your favourite order.
Mine would have to be:
1) Spun
2) Requiem For A Dream
3) Trainspotting

I only put these movies in the same class because they all show very real consequences of drug-addiction/drug-taking, and all have excellent casts. Feel free to say otherwise...

I don't think I can limit myself to three...

1. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
2. Spun
3. Trainspotting
4. Requiem for a Dream
5. The Basketball Diaries

Honestly, depending on when you ask me, the last three are all interchangable. Nothing will ever touch Fear and Loathing for me, even outside of the drug-induced category.

1.Requiem for a Dream
2.Trainspotting
3.Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas

... and somewhere down around 5 or 6 I'd throw in Spun :)

Trainspotting by miles, and Fear and Loathing. Spun was alright, but I think Requiem sucked (and I really wanted to like it too). Traffic was pretty good.

No-one has mentioned Human Traffic. The best movie about the ecstasy culture.

Oh, and NEVER watch One Perfect Day or Go. The WORST movies about the ecstasy culture :)

They mostly come at night. Mostly.

3.Candy

Spun is fantastic too,Fear and Loathing is good but i don't really think it's as great as people say. I don't think Spun stole from Requiem i mean both films are incredibly stylistic but i think most drug movies are like that. A subject like drug addiction calls for crazy angles and shots to allow you to closer feel the atmosphere of the characters which i think Spun and Requiem both did wonderfully.

Go was a dumb movie. I liked One Perfect Day if it was the one with James Woods and Melanie Griffith. that was heroin though, not. e.

oops never mind. i was thinking of Another Day in Paradise. more about crime than drugs, still pretty good.

another day in paradise is the title, but touche for at least listing something dif outside the same 3 movies list over yrs above this comment. But no1's reading this anyway.

the films that are listed are good, but tame in comparision to Christiane F, a movie that came out in the early 1980s based in Germany. It is based on a true story also. and depicts in graphic detail adolecent teens injecting heroin, and selling themselves for only one hit. it is very depressing and quite grapic at times, but educational as well regarding drug addiction in Germany. it also shows the frightning side effects of having withdrawals when there is nothing to take anymore.

I cannot believe it took this long for someone to mention thirteen!!!
Prozac Nation (yes the book was better but I still loved the movie)
Valley of the dolls (I know it's old but I loved it)
A scanner darkly

Has anyone noticed how many Johnny Depp movies involve drugs(or seem to involve "mind altering substances"...

quite the comprehensive list there and definitely some good ones.

Buffalo Soldiers and Withnail & I were great.

Still, nobody mentioned The Trip?

Lots of movies with that title, but I'm of course talking about the one with Peter Fonda & Dennis Hopper: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062395/

I'm also surprised nobody mentioned Traffik which despite its being a TV mini-series was a much better piece of work than Traffic.

Trainspotting will always be the best drug movie, and just one of the best movies period.

Spun was entertaining, but it's like the makers didn't know if they wanted to take it seriously or not. You'd have a few realistic characters and then some completely unrealistic ones, you'd have something realistic happen and then something unrealistic happen. It was like whip-lash. And there was barely any character development. The visuals and acting were all superb, though. But one of the best? Not even close.
