just watching Dog Soldiers haven't seen it in a year or so and couldn't help to realize how similar the intro to the movie is to Bad Moon (another great werewolf movie yet critics seem to HATE it...anyways) Just an observation. I love Dog Soldiers full of gore, laughs and good acting but I don't see why so many people think its the best werewolf movie EVER.
I don't think it is a werewolf movie... in the same way that Shaun Of The Dead isn't really a zombie movie - This is a comedy flick about British squaddies that just happens to have werewolves in it.
I agree. Bad Moon is one of my favourite werewolf movies - have you read Thor, the book it's based on? It's very good, though the werewolf is described as more of a 'wolf-man' than the one in the movie.
Dog Soldiers wasn't bad, but I definitely wouldn't call it one of the best werewolf movies. The werewolves aren't in it enough, for one thing.
I don't consider it the BEST werewolf movie ever, but it's definitely up there. My favorites are the original Wolfman, The Howling, Silver Bullet & An American Werewolf in London. I guess I could include this in my top 5 though.
AWIL is at best a nearly-adequate of werewolf movies in my opinion! Though it has the BEST transformation scene which I believe should be used as a template, that's it. Characters are just there, I didn't even get to care for any of them. That movie has nothing else going for it. The beginning scene at the moor and one in the subway are perhaps the only eerie and frightening/ noteworthy moments that I love. I really don't see its appeal as far as werewolf movies go. The werewolf design was okay, and that thing is barely present on screen. Even Howling is miles better despite the awful werewolf designs. I enjoy AWIL but I would only watch it for those select scenes.
Silver Bullet has the worst werewolf but good atmosphere and that sense of small town life, makes a good camp-fire type story. Bad Moon has the BEST werewolf I have ever seen to date! Dog Soldiers werewolf design is just a wolf`s head on a human body, so not much of an artistic flare there, so overall I got to give it to Bad Moon. William werewolf from Underworld might come close and even one from Werewolf the Tv Series, but Bad Moon ranks no.1 werewolf design wise and the story is okay too with likable main characters (Wolf guy and dog).
Wolfman design is just plain sad, not a fan of those designs. Though the movie was enjoyable, both the classic and new.
I actually like Silver Bullet's werewolf haha as a kid it scared me so I guess its a nostalgic thing for me plus the 80s campy vibe and *beep* Gary Busey I need to get the book Thor though and Cycle of the werewolf.

I can name at least 10 werewolf movies better than Dog Soldiers (although I really like Dog Soldiers). "An American Werewolf In London" is easily the best werewolf movie ever. "The Company Of Wolves", "The Howling", "Silver Bullet" etc. etc.
