2.She Decides to visit the writers house alone.He is a suspected murderer and is likely working with another murderer(pacino).Yeah lets visit him(or them) alone!
I dont expect such things from top directors..
She didn't want him to know she was onto him and she wanted to know his reasons before arresting him because she had mad respect for his work. He was like a mentor.

shareIt's not bad directing at all. You don't understand the character. As somebody commented, she had "mad respect" for Dormer... she asked him whether the killing was intentional and didn't want it to be true of the detective she admired. I do wonder though if Dormer hadn't turned up, would she have told anyone? She didn't even tell him that she knew.
I don't think it was naive of her to go to the cabin; she had a gun which she reached for and didn't know that Finch knew she knew. Dormer went there by himself too.
and to address the 2nd point, the writer hadn't been more than a person of interest, and by the time she goes there, even though she suspects Dormer of shooting his partner and covering up, that doesn't change the fact that, as far as she's aware, the boyfriend was the killer and was already in custody. So she had no reason to be concerned about going to the house alone.
She wasn't knowingly going to a suspected murderer's house.
Was Nolan a top director by 2002? This was his third movie. Also worth mentioning, this is the only movie he didn't write.
