Kevin Spacey ruined this movie for me

Kevin Spacey ruined this movie for me. For some reason he decided to make sure to look very smug and pretentious, rather than work on being "believable". Even in his catatonic condition he still looked very smug and pretentious, like trying hard to supress a smile! He didn't understand a catatonic person is supposed to be completely void of expression.

you didn't really understand the movie, watch it again, it's worth it

I agree. I've seen this movie like 7 times now. I think it's a good movie. Tho it has some flaws. I never noticed this about Kevin's acting at first. I also noticed the slight smile in the end.. Which implies he's just faking being catatonic. It kinda ruined it for me.
Because he'd have no reason to fake that.
Also the whole baby-like voice during his "hypnotisation" was pathetic.
I don't believe a person would ever act like that and not be aware of it.

Nah Spacey did a good job overall, the only part where I had doubts was when he was being hypnotized. I kept expecting him to snap awake and say "gotcha!" or something. I've seen catatonic and deeply dissociated individuals and there is an almost visceral sense of distance, of an eternal void between them and the rest of the world. Communication with them feels unreal. This is a challenge for any actor to portray realistically, and Spacey unfortunately did not manage it.

There was nothing to ruin, but the constant condescending smirk on his face and general holier-than-thou attitude got annoying before the movie had reached the ten minute mark. By far the worst performance I´ve seen from Spacey.

Most of his movies he "acts" like this. I can't think of many movies he starred in that didn't exhibit this behavior besides Outbreak. However, I thought he did great in this movie.
