Does Jet Li GET IT ON??

I'm writing a paper on how Hollywood emasculates Asian actors by NEVER putting them in a physically intimate/romantic setting with females of other races (Caucasian, African-American, etc).

I haven't seen this movie, so can somebody tell if Jet Li has a romantic relationship with anybody? And if so, are there physical interactions between them (kissing, etc).

Thanks a lot.

He doesn't kiss her I don't believe...have you seen the Transporter?American with an asian there...There are quite a few...Enter the Dragon...Pocahontis (kinda)...Rush Hour I believe Tucker gets with some asian girls...Doesn't he get with that black chick in Romeo Must Die,there are quite a few, although it is the cliche'-Naive asian gets with warm hearted westerner.

They never show East Asiatic men and white women, He's just helps her in this movie, just a friendship between them.

Well, for the script sake, i wouldn't want to "get it on" with a strung out heroine addict, with a kid (for gawd's sake), who was also banging the arch enemy, and worked on a farm sewing up pigs.. That's definitely someone you'd be proud to take home to your mother..

some days, it's not worth chewing through the restraints..

reply

Well....for some people, that IS their mother unfortunately.

In Romeo Must Die there is an obvious attraction at the least between a black girl and Jet Li, can't remember if anything happens in the movie though...

reply

Na, nothing physical (or even verbal?) happens between the two in Romeo Must Die, but since the film is loosely based around romeo and juliet, i think we'r meant 2 assume they get 2getha?

just my thought.

Asian men get hated on in American cinema.
There was a white/asian relationship in The Hazing :)

reply

Yea that is completely true in Replacement Killers I thought something would happen but squat happened. There even in a hotel together alone and nothing happens, not even a kiss. If it was a black guy and a black girl you better believe something would have happened. Same thing with a white couple. and its even a stretch but a black guy and a white girl, have happened (not that often) but it has. I think people are still really sketchy around the whole interracial thing. But to answer the question, no nothing happens at all.

M.C. Pee Pants: I had a strizoke in my brizain, you know what I'm sayin'? So I can't move all good.

reply

Not Jet Li but the Japanese man in the hotel room starts having sex with the other prostitute just before he dies.

Has this movie got an alternate ending? I just saw the film end happily with mother, daughter and John reunited at the hospital but I thought he died at the end the first time I saw it. I'd rate this film highly for repeat viewing (also just for being a good movie), unlike Romeo Must Die which bored me to tears even on the first running.

I'm not sure about other films. But in Kiss of the Dragon, it's implied that his character is married to his work. He states that in his job its "hard to meet women". He certainly appeared empathatic to her plight.

I've seen a lot of films from Hong Kong where there is only a quick peck on the cheek from a girlfriend, or wife. For example in Die Hard, you don't see much affection between McClane and his wife either.

I don't have a problem with an asian guy getting it on with a woman. But it's just typical Hollywood closed mindedness.

In regards to your paper:
- Dragon (The bruce lee story), Jason Scott Lee - Bruce marries Linda Lee, Linda's mother is a bit racist but accepts him when their child (Brandon?) is born. Contains sex scene.
- The Jungle Book (1994), Jason Scott Lee - havent seen it, but I think he ends up with the leading actress at the end.
- Shanghai Noon, Jackie Chan - Jackie gets kissed by a Caucasian girl after he saves her at the hotel/brothel and falls out the window. He unknowingly marries a Native American Indian girl (wakes up in her bed the next morning), but ends up with the Chinese Princess (Pei Pei) at the end.
- Martial Law - Sammo Hung Couple of episodes at the start of the first season, Tammy Lauren played "Dana": Sammos sidekick. Nothing happened as far as I know because Tammy Lauren left the show.
- Crying Freeman (1995), Mark Dacascos (Asian + Caucasian ancestry)- "A lethal assassin for a secret Chinese organisation ... is seen swiftly and mercilessly executing three Yakuza gangsters by a beautiful artist". Contains sex scene.
- Romeo Must Die, Jet Li - Based loosely on Romeo and Juliet (2 families at war with each other). Li gets the girl at the end (Aaliyah, African-American ancestry) and they have a relationship, (but they dont kiss?). PS - I don't remember Jet Li ever kissing a girl in any of his movies and I've seen quite a few.
- The Replacement Killers, Chow Yun Fat - Mira Sorvino is the female lead. Chow Yun Fat doesn't kiss her at the end (apparently its against his policy to kiss actresses in movies).
- Kiss of the Dragon, Jet Li - sort of has a relationship with a victimised prostitute in France (Bridget Fonda). He saves her daughter from a corrupt cop. There is a hint of something between them, but he is mostly sympathetic.

By the way, I have seen a lot of Hong Kong martial arts films and they don't always have intimate/romantic scenes. So maybe it is partly cultural and the actors request it (Jet Li and Chow Yun Fat). I know Jackie chan doesnt like sex scenes in his movies, he likes his movies to be suitable for all audiences.
I think out of these guys, the American based ones (Jason Scott Lee and Mark Dacascos) are more open to kissing/sex scenes.

A. Who wants to see some Asian guy having sex with anyone?

B. As you see in this movie, the guy is a total douchebag...

reply

Jet Li is married to a Caucasian woman in The One.. but i dont remember if there was any kissing.

Guy had to pull off a near-British accent (which, as we all know, is a selling point in itself) just to hook up. Quite pitiful actually.

reply

In asia even married couples do not kiss in public.
