Why did Caroline look back at the end of the movie??


Why did Caroline look back, at the end of the movie??? I didnt get it. Did anyone else?!?!?!

When he could not understand a parable, it finally dawned on her that she had an infatuation with a diminished person. I.e. he was a high functioning retard and when she looked at him across the dinner table, she would never see an equal.

One of my Favorite Movies is Choose Me, by Alan Parker, I think.
At the end, Lesley Ann Warren's character is resting her head on her new husband's (Keith Carradine) shoulder, then looks up with a troubled face, then settles back in.
Hard to tell what she's thinking, but it's a nice moment and I think the end of Pumpkin is similar.

I'm not a woman much less Deanna Durbin, but the old-time glam-shot appeals to me.
