Is Cheryl a top 3 worst TV wife in history?

-Constantly taking other people's sides instead of her husband's even when he's right
-Constantly complains about everything he does, any time he has an opinion that isn't 100% conventional she looks at him like's a freak
-Constantly denies Larry sex for the stupidest reasons
-For some reason wants to marry Larry really badly in the flash back and even bribes him by saying she'll let him sleep with another woman for their 10th anniversary (i.e gold digger)
-Acts like Larry owes her something even though he has provided her with such an extravagant lifestyle and yet she doesn't acknowledge this at all
-Always nags Larry to do things that she could easily do herself
-Buys a beach house with Larry's money almost immediately after they separate

I would have blown my brains out if I had to live with this cow of a woman for the rest of my life. Susie is obviously the epitome of a terrible wife, but she was designed to be that way. Cheryl is supposed to be the normal one when she's really just some useless gold digger who puts up with Larry's eccentricities to mooch off him.

Are you kidding? The show was just fine without her. Larry and Leon had much better comedic chemistry. Cheryl Hines was not good. That said, I disagree with the OP. Yes Larry was rich, but she put up with his petty insanity more than any person could or would.

Why does Curb seem to attract so many crazies with mad biases against women?

Sadly, it's not just Crb fans. It's a certain type of "men" who use the internet for the wrong reasons and have no problem with liberally using the word "bitch" all over the place

If you are a follower of Passport-To-Pimlico and are 100% proud of it, put this in your sig.

Shut the *beep* up!
If Larry was Gay and It was his Husband the OP's points still stand are correct.

Nothing to do with gender...just character!

She's sometimes *beep* AWFUL and maddening in her disloyalty even when Larry is right and she knows it!
Like her appaling behaviour in the episode where Larry is accused of following the woman in his car....she's there with him & knows the woman is wrong and she says NOTHING!

So get over your PC self.

I actually kind of agree. She seems to have little affection for Larry and is hardly ever amused by his antics. She may have been in love with him long ago, but clearly puts her other friendships and NRDC work ahead of Larry 99% of the time. Has she EVER defended him to Wanda, Susie, ANYONE even when she knew he was in the right? She's not a bad person, and Larry is an unbelievable doofus, but she married him. She even RENEWED their vows at HER insistence (for eternity) less than a year before leaving him. She clearly does not "love" the man, because if you've ever known a woman in love she will make every excuse in the world to anyone who will listen about why he's not so bad (mostly to convince herself). Cheryl is a bad wife.

reply

You do make some great points. I still think Cheryl had a lot to put up with, and she forgave him a lot. Eventually, he just wore her down.

reply

She didn't waste too much time divorcing him after she'd put her time in, did she?

It's not like Larry did anything terrible either. She just got tired of him, pretty much, according to her.

reply

For real? first of all it was at least a year before the divorce went through. They were separated awhile and almost got back together twice before the divorce (which seemed very amicable) went through.

Also, just got tired of him? Yes after 15 or so years of marriage, Larry ignores her near death experience for the TiVo guide. For comedic purposes that scene was gold but if you want to be realist, that's more than grounds for a trial separation.

Also, people who say they never have fun together are ignoring huge portions of the series. Cheryl just had the unfortunate pleasure of LIVING with Larry, so midway through most episodes she was demanding he take care of whatever awful mess he'd gotten himself (or both of them) into.

Lastly, Hines is perfect for the role. I also prefer Leon and really enjoy seasons 6-8, but Cheryl is great.

Cheryl knew what Larry was like when they got married. I know its a fictional TV show but Cheryl just wanted the fame and life of ease that David could provide, and she complained the entire time despite the fact that she knew about Larry's personality quirks before the marriage.

I do think Leon had better chemistry with Larry than his wife did. His wife was just a nag and a foil, Leon had a lot of comedic dialogue to add.

reply

She also makes Larry use that horrible recycled toilet paper to make herself feel like she's making a difference, even though they waste energy in a lot of other ways, including living in a house that's much, much bigger than they really need.

reply

You've obviously never been married.

reply

I thought she was great. Sometimes she sided with other people even though Larry was right, but that only added to the insanity.

that's funny because i think larry david, walter white, and tony soprano are the top three worst tv husbands. larry is the least horrible (socially awkward, disrespectful, putting her in constant awkward situations, constantly forgetting or shirking his familial obligations, rude to her family etc, but all still pretty innocuous), but like... tony soprano and walter white are just horrible *beep* people who don't deserve supportive partners.

Walter is awful, but his wife sucked hard too. I don't know who I hate more.

What about when Cheryl hooked him up for a round of golf with Gary Player?? Not bad!

reply

I've just started watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, I'm on season 2, but I agree, Cheryl is without a doubt the worse wife ever. This is why I checked the message board, to see if I'm the only one to think so.
I also think Skyler is the second worse, I don't know about the third

Lori Grimes?

reply

Shes not all to blame for the problems I'm just noticing some reoccurring problems with her, like shes one to mix business with pleasure, everyone that she or Larry does business with becomes her friend and Larry only sees them as associates and would like to be done with them after their business arrangement is done. Instead Cheryl decides to befriend them and which leads to the Davids being invited out to social gatherings where she forces Larry to go.

Case and point the entire Crazy Eyez Killah episode was entirely her fault. She doesn't respect her husband enough not to tell Wanda about her fiancee cheating and eating other girls out. She forced Larry to eat her out and get the pube down his throat while he was filming the Scorsese movie.
