Did anyone else think that David should had been played by..

.. Jim Carrey?

Not that Cruise didn't do a good job, I was just constantly distracted by the fact that his appearance was really similar to Truman and Joel (although ESotSM came out after this). I feel like I would've enjoyed this more if David had been played Carrey.

I've just this minute watched the end of this film and had to see if any imdb people had the same thought as me. Yours was the first thing i read as a great coincidence. Absolutely, he reminded me of Jim Carey throughout the film when his face was disfigured. Even when he was stumbling along. Jim Carey is all i felt. While it did not detract, it made me feel that Tom Cruise was actually in a different mindset for this. Glad we had the same thoughts mate.

I think if Jim Carrey got the role today he would have been great, however Tom Cruise is a mega star compared to Jim, so I understand why he got the role and the role was very relatable to him, based on his celebrity status. Many people don't think Tom Cruise is a real person.

Always look for the positive in every situation.
