He gave a canned, insincere speech, similar to one he would have given at a business dinner. Jeannie recognized this.

Jeannie's reaction to her Dad's speech was the same as the viewer's reaction: Initial apprehension and then relief.

Warren made the right decision to not be selfish by sharing his true feelings, but rather offered mild (sincere) commendation for Randall and stressing that he was pleased.
