Ending

I haven't seen the movie since it first came out. Great movie. I happened to catch the end last night. I must be missing something. How did Jude Law know where Hanks was going. It seems to me that he would have had to get there first and hide some where in order to shoot him in the back. There was no one on the road. Surely Hanks would have seen if a car was following him. There didn't seem any place to hide a car.

There was a scene where Tom Hanks was talking to the woman (his sister-in-law?) on the phone. Afterwards, they show Jude Law picking up the phone and saying, "Operator, I got disconnected. Can you reconnect me?"

Thereby, he found out where they were going.

He's also a professional assassin who has been doing this work for some time, so he probably investigated Hanks' life. It wouldn't be difficult for him to find out about the sister-in-law's place by the beach.

Right. When they have their face-to-face meeting at the diner and Hanks's character escapes out the back door he makes a comment to his son that Jude Law knows where they're going.

My take on the ending was that while Hanks was taking care of business and killing everybody, Jude Law just zoomed ahead of them and waited.
