Too much Modesty Blaise for my taste. I'd rather watch the real thing than this pale rip off.

The scene where Paul chases the shadowy film thief down into the sewer felt very reminiscent of The Third Man.

...would you happen to have any flan?...

...while the film 'Dragonfly' is clearly inspired by/based on 60s genre classics as
- Barbarella
- Danger: Diabolik
- Modesty Blaise
- and not mentioned yet, '10th Victim' starring Ursula Andress and Marcello Mastroianni!

...most characters are based on real live stars/celebrities of the time e.g.
-Giancarlo Giannini as a Dino deLaurentiis/Carlo Ponti-esque producer
- Jason Schwartzman as a Roman Polanski like young director
- Angela Lindval as the starlette who obviously is an animal lover like Jane Fonda - star of Barbarella - who later became a animal rights activist!

...apart from that many scenes remind the viewer of Fellini's
- 8 1/2 and
- La Dolce Vita

a great tribute to that particular time in movie making. it captures the period's feel of camp, creativity and pure fun wonderfully! definitely a film that would have deserved more attention from critics and audiences alike!

I love the soundtrack to CQ. It was pastiche of Sixties neo-psychedelic music from Jesus Franco's sexploitation films, Italian B-movies, Euro-spy movies like the aforementioned "Modesty Blaze" and Serge Gainsboug's French pop.

Jeremy Davies has always been one of my favorite actor because of his expressive face, his masterful use of non-verbal body language, and soft spoken voice. His best roles are when he plays a decent, gentle soul who's locked in a struggle to his keep his darker and destructive impulses from destroying him.

Others have already mentioned -- and I totally agree with them -- that CQ is style- and/or content-dropping DANGER: DIABOLIK, MODESTY BLAISE, THE 10TH VICTIM, ALPHAVILLE, etc., . . . . .

. . . . . but one movie nobody else has yet brought up is MISSION STARDUST (1967), viewable for free on YouTube as of this writing. Even if you don't have time to watch the whole movie, check out the groovy pop tune that plays during it's opening & closing credits. It just screams "Italian 1960's Sci-Fi".

Paul flipping his cigarette while driving in his car before shooting the Dragonfly sci-fi film was inspired by Jean-Luc Godard's film Masculin féminin in which Jean-Pierre Léaud performs the same cigarette trick.
