Matthew McConaughey is utterly over the top and hilarious in this film

I remember seeing this in theaters when it first came out. I was about 11 years old. My friend and I could not stop laughing uncontrollably throughout the entire film because of his outlandish accent ands over the top machismo. Even his posture. Just hilarious.

watch this clip... "that's what we need" gets me EVERY time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpJOgXhBLaA

anyone agree?

If I'd have been in the cinema when you were there and I heard you constantly laughing through this film i would have slapped you and your friend and thrown you out.

He and his friend would have beat your punk ass like a dirty old rug.

You must be the friend.

I think both actors put the dial to 11 for the ham acting stakes.

I have a brother-in-law that was in Special Forces. When he was a Captain and had his A-Team, he was a dead-ringer for Matt McConaughey's character....without the tattoos though....

"Yeah, I'm a loser at the top of my game. I shoulda known to keep an eye on you...."

All that bravado and he gets gobbled like a sack of *beep*

In a movie where they're fighting dragons with primitive weaponry face to face, the characters have to be nutty. I thought he did a great job and really stole the movie from Bale (who also did well).

His coolest role. A lot of immitators afterward.

He’s insanely funny. Whether it’s good or bad acting on his part, he does make the movie more memorable.

He's "over the top" because his character & surviving humans worldwide have lived in subjugation to deadly fire-breathing dragons for the last two decades and he's intent on wiping the bastages out. It's war.

Actually, this film helped me gain greater respect for McConaughey as he is unrecognizable as the bald pyscho-combative and loses himself in the role. Unfortunately, the storytelling is weak. The movie's just not that compelling, which isn’t helped by the mumbled dialogue and ambiguities. Still, if you can adapt to the viewer-unfriendly style, there’s a lot to appreciate; the sets are convincing and the CGI is surprisingly effective.

Yours right. Hom getting bulked up for the role was big news when this came out.

I personally think the dragons in this were pretty cool. It's a little convenient of a story, but it's popcorn fun.
