Surely, you aren't reducing an entire century of U.S. film-making to the example of "Maid in Manhattan". The scope of the U.S. film industry is as diverse as its population.
First of all, nothing could be more stupid than making sweeping generalizations about an entire country of flesh and blood people based upon something as trivial as a 90 minute flick.
Second of all, 'Americans' make up more than just the United States. South and Central America are also countries of Americans who undoubtedly played little part in the stardom of Jennifer Lopez or Will Smith. And I know you aren't insinuating that the United States has a monopoly on the promotion of mediocre talent. Congratulations, not only have you managed to exhibit unadulterated rudeness, but stupidity as well.
Thirdly, you won't find a country on this planet with a commercial film industry that doesn't cater to the fantasies of its consumers--This isn't stupidity, its savy business. Every developed country thrives on the insatiable wants of its consumers and most of those wants fall short of the seriousness and boredom exemplified by the average Senate Committee hearing. Every film can't be "Schindeler's List".
If you can find nothing more substantial to measure a nation's intelligence by than its commercial film industry, than perhaps you are even stupider than your comment.
