Lost respect for Rob after DVD commentary

I have been a huge fan of Rob Zombie's music, and especially his films for years.

House of 1000 Corpses has been consistently in my top 3 favorite movies since I first saw it in the theater.

I finally watched it with Rob's commentary, and.. wow.

Hearing the disrespect and disregard he had for anyone involved with filming that weren't principle actors was appalling.

He openly mocked the actual discomfort and pain that the women who played the cheerleaders, brushing it off casually. He chuckled, and said that they worry about the comfort of the principal actors, but it's okay to abuse the extras.

His disdain for the support staff (catering, drivers, assistants, etc..) during the ending credits made him seem like an entitled diva. His constant rant about how much he had to pay so many people who he thought didn't do anything left me with no respect for him.

I firmly believe that everyone deserves to be treated with basic decency. It is not acceptable to pick and choose who deserves to be treated as a fellow human.

I cannot support him anymore. Again, I was a huge fan.. I cannot support someone who so easily degrades people who he perceives as lesser.

How a person treats those in inferior positions -- e.g. janitors, waitresses/waiters, etc. -- tells you a lot about that person; same thing with how a person treats someone they KNOW they can get away with abusing.

I was engaged in a heated discussion with a friend who's a writer/artist (The Simpsons, etc.) several years ago wherein he was bloviating about his greatness. I told him that I thought it was awesome that he made his living in an unconventional way as a writer/artist, but that I honestly didn't consider him any differently than a local factory worker as far as human worth goes. He felt he deserved "celebrity" perks.

Not good to hear. I guess all I can say is he said it himself, owned up to it. At least he didn’t try to lie and cover it up.

reply

Wow, I had no idea he’s such a douche. I gotta check out this commentary.

Same. Not only was the BTS disappointing, I keep finding movies that he's completely stolen from without giving credit. The biggest being Texas Chainsaw: Next Generation. Watch that movie and you will see what I am talking about. Not only that but TCM 2 and Spider Baby are other movies you can clearly see what is not just inspiration, but a total ripoff of those films' characters, dialogue, and tone.

I still think House of 1000 Corpses is an entertaining movie. It's just such a bummer to find out the truth behind it.

He still talks about the shoot now and then. Apparently it was a real contentious disaster with a lot of butting heads. Everyone was basically quit or fired by the end and he had to finish shooting the movie by himself. He plays it off like a struggling hero artist. But it was probably more like you laid it out. Rob just not understanding how the film industry works. Gotta remember this is the same guy who fired his drummer and said "this guy is making the same million dollars as me?" He has a very low opinion of the supporting crew, always has.

Sounds like a real a-hole.

reply

Well, he made two watchable movies. He's not a paragon of talent himself, is he?

reply

Well the guy never ever smiles and just seems like a real d*ckbag. The irony is his wife is a huge animal rights activist. People that love animals are usually decent humans to their core. Maybe they just like animals more than other people. Something i can kinda appreciate but Zombie always came across as a huge d*ckhead. Every single movie he’s done besides this and TDR were absolutely horrendous. He should stop making them.
