What did you name the characters?

I saw this on the FF7 board, and thought it was an interesting question. Did you rename your characters, and if so, what did you call them? I was really into Elvish (the elf language from Lord of the Rings) when I first played this game, so I gave some of my characters Elvish names. Here they are.

Zidane: Randir (meaning "wanderer")
Garnet/Dagger: Miriel ("Jewelled Lady")
Steiner: Beleg ("Strong")

Freya, Amarant, Quina, and Vivi got to keep their original names, but I gave the name Kellie to Eiko, just because I thought it was a cute name for her, especially when combined with her last name.

I named Zidane my name Daniel. Vivi "Craig" and that. Just names of people I know. That's what I do every time I play FF9 on ps1. I Just compare Final Fantasy to a Real life comparison of me visualizing myself into a fantasy world. Just like me as the protagonist.

First time i played it , i renamed the characters but forgot the names
then replayed it about 2 or 3 times and kept their names but the last time i renamed Amarant = F*..UC*..K Me

i thought i could change it when i get to daguero but i didnt get a namingway card unfortunatley and this time all levels are 99 and i killed every monster i did all chocobo stuff, and Kill oZmA and I Love to Fight Kuja, infact i love kuja himself he is the coolest villain.

Whenever I play through the game, I usually keep the characters with their default names. I don't like renaming characters.

Except for one time when I was playing with a friend. He was refusing to play the game on some moral grounds (he was one of the ones who complained about the unrealistic graphics when it first came out). He agreed to play it only if I stuck around while he played it one weekend, and the other stipulation was that he could give the characters goofy names, because he knew it would annoy me.

So we ended up playing through the first disc with characters that had horrible ,suggestive, racist and offensive names, none of which I can repeat here. Sad thing was, they were pretty funny to see in conversation.

After we breat Disc One, we restarted the game because my friend realized it actually was a good game, and all the whining about the graphics was unfounded, so we then played through using just the standard names.

Don't say I was being childish, because we were only like 13 or 14 when this happened.

I didn't rename them, but if I did I'd choose these.

Zidane: Nikko
Vivi: Scarecrow
Steiner: Tin Man
Garnet: Dorothy
Freya: Glinda
Quina: Toto
Eiko: Munchkin
Amarant: Lion

I keep everyone the same except for Garnet. I always rename her "Angel"

My brother renamed her that the first time i ever played it, so... it kind of just stuck. =/

I always use the default names, but I have a friend who was refusing to play the game, for whatever reason, and he would only play it through with me if we could name the characters funny names.

Sadly, I can't repeat them here.

I kept the names. However, I would consider these names in a future playthrough.

Zidane- Goku (Come on! The monkey tail, being born on another planet, one of his enemies is his brother, and every time anyone went into Trance mode, I always called it Super Saiyan mode).

Vivi- Orco (I can't believe no one has tried that yet).

Steiner- Rusty.

Dagger- Just Garnet, because calling her Dagger got confusing at first.

Freya- Rem (I always imagined her with Rem from Death Note's english voice).

Quina- Either Frank (After Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show), or Majin Buu (Since they both always think with their stomachs).

Eiko- Sakura (After Sakura Haruno from Naruto, since they're both annoying, and yet usefull with healing magic).

Armarant- Either Roosterman/Rooster (When I first looked at the cover, I thought he looked like a giant rooster), or Homer (Figure it out).

I always change names in games if I have a chance.
Mine on the fourth playthrough:

Zidane: LegoMan (don't ask)
Vivi: SATAN (Brings lot of funny dialogue, believe me!)
Steiner: Sir GAS (again, don't ask)
Dagger: Hitler
Freya: Golbat (WTF?)
Quina: SexBomb
Eiko: IceBeam (You know, from the Marvel vs Capcom 2... Nevermind...)
Amarant: Damn, can't remember, I put it here when I do.
