This movie was so bad it was funny

From the bad acting by Travolta and the kid all the way up to the end when the mom conviently loses the baby. The Step-dad was pretty funny though.

2/10

This film isn't bad at all. It's not a masterpiece, but it shouldn't be underrated like this. I think it's a fair film, and Travolta is pretty good in it. 7/10

reply

Um, did we watch the same movie?

reply

7/10 is pretty high. 7 doesn't mean 5, which is middle-of-the-road. I'm sick of people who watch "fair" movies and give them high ratings like 7.
Return of the King was 9.
Gladiator was 8.
this isn't almost as good as Gladiator.

Best part was when SPOILERS SPOILERS! the guy pours gasoline all over himself and then trys to use the lighter. I almost pissed myself laughing when he did that. Some criminal mastermind...

reply

The acting was decent, but just decent...except for that retarded Teri woman. She was even annoying in Meet The Parents, which I love.

I watched this today on Showtime and they had this behind the scenes thing afterwards and she is just freaking looney...she kept banging on about how she likes to do her own stunts. Forgive me if I'm wrong but throwing yourself on the ground is not much of a "stunt".

This film wasn't *terrible* but it was so plain and predictable...it may as well have been a Lifetime movie.

Why do they waste so much money making movies that have already been made a thousand times before?

"What is this Wonka, some kind of funhouse?"
"Why, are you having fun?"

reply

lmao...Domestic Disturbance is by no means a good movie, but it's very funny.

His name...was Julio Iglesias!

reply

I thought that was pretty funny too.

This movie isn't that bad. I pretty much only bought it because i am obsessed with Vince Vaughn so if you watch it with an attitude that Vince Vaughn is Godly, then it's completely different then if you watch it expecting John Travolta to be amazing. I thought Vince was awesome in this film, probably the best part. His character is pretty sweet until the whole baseball incident, although this is coming from someone who's favorite movie is Dodgeball. The script was really predictable, but all-in-all not horrible. I think a lot less people would have liked the movie, or even understood it if it wasn't so predictable. Like, in the end Rick got away with everything or even something abstract. For today's cinema, it wasn't so bad.

reply

I enjoyed watching Vince Vaughn die, although after suffering thru "Made" I wish they would have added back the 30 minutes that was edited and show him getting the death of a 1000 cuts routine.

reply

[deleted]

you're actually OBSESSED with Vince Vaughn?
Wow.....

reply

No, I disagree about that. It only shows that despite his criminal nature, he is still human, and humans can get careless, especially when obsessed and rushed with committing a crime. He was rushed because he was afraid of getting caught and he wanted to make sure the entire boat house would be demolished; and to set the blaze before the father regains consiousness. SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!!! Not to mention it is the one clue that after watching the blaze on TV, and her son's comment about the stepdad's warning, the mother was able to put 2 and 2 together.

I agree. I watched it for Vince. He was great, but the character didn't have much depth. I love Vince in the bad guy roles, but the film was overall weak. Travolta was cheesy, the mom was just ridiculously corny, and the kid was annoying ....but it wasn't the worse movie out there. If Vaughn wasn't in it, it would have been garbage.

HAHA ! (After reading post about Vaughn catching fire after spilling gasoline) I immediately thought : '' I wonder why this didn't happen to Michael Madsen in RESERVOIR DOGS ?'' LOL

reply

great observation ildon. why do people call an average movie 7/10. A 7 from me is a VERY respectable score. Give a 5 to the average movie, because it is the average of all those numbers . . . you know, 1 thru 10

"I'm sorry. Did I break your concentration?"

reply

ehhhh the movie was OK...not too suspenseful or anything. John Travolta's acting was pretty bad.

The best part of the movie was Steve Buchemi. He'll make any movie worth watching.

reply

Because if you are in school, a C is average. C is like a 70. Thus, an average (C) movie gets a ranking of 7/10. Not sure how good you are at division, but 7/10 is the same as 70/100 or 70 per cent.

Return of the King was a ten. Gladiator was an eight. This movie isn't almost as good as Gladiator, it's a six. Worth watching for Vince Vaughn as a ridiculous criminal.

reply

ah, see? there is where you are at fault. If you go to school (and you're probably in junior high elitist) what do you think the worst grade that anybody has got? A 40, maybe? IMDB gives us a scale of 1-10. They intend for all those numbers to be utilized. so, by your rationale, the lowest score u would ever give a movie is a 4.

best movie ever = 10
very good movie = 7
average movie = 5
bad movie = 4
worst movies of all time = 1

"I'm sorry. Did I break your concentration?"

Exactly, xfile. Exactly.

I give Domestic Disturbance a 10....on a scale where 1 is awesome and 10 is pure trash pedaled for art, not even that probably by the wheeling and dealing higher ups at the movie studios who think they can just give consumers hungry for quality the cold shoulder while they bask in their reaping mountains of cash which has been put into the movie studios by the consumers gipped by the ad campaigns which flaunt scandilous clothing and whatnot devised by those very same Hollywood executives who've turned tricks in years past on the corporate side of the movie industry by taking advantage of the very ideals the movie industry and more to the point our society is founded on which is supply and demand or as some would like to call it "business" which is what unfortunately these higher ups see the movie industry as not an art form but a platform for exposing either the ignorance of the public or the deceptive cunning of the twisted hallways of their own minds. Bastards.

Do you know what average means? Average is not the same as mean, so don't say the average should be five.

Also, I rate a movie based on whether or not I found it entertaining. A movie rated 1, I would recommend not seeing at any costs. A movie rated 10 I would gladly watch again and again. By this scale:

1 - avoid at all costs
2 - avoid under almost any circumstances
3 - avoid unless you have absolutely nothing else to do or watch
4 - watch if you are with an incredibly hot girl
5 - watch if you are bored
6 - not that bad, certainly passable
7 - okay enough, starting to get good
8 - good, watch this once, if you don't like it, you just don't like it
9 - very good, if you don't like it the first time, give it a second look
10 - incredible, if you don't like it, you don't like movies

Domestic Disturbance is a 6.

The Graduate is a 10.

The Empire Strikes Back is a 10.

The Phantom Menace is a 2.

Actually, on your list, this movie is more like a 3. But I think 3 and 4 are pretty much the exact same thing. Because this movie is not passable by any means and if you try watching this when you're bored - you'll become MUCH more bored.

reply

Haha, ElitistPunk is right. 7 is respectable, but average... it's a C in school, so it's a C here. A 5 is an F in school... fortunately, in the entertainment medium, it's at an average level too. Just near the mark of a bad 4.
I would put this movie at a 7 too though. Predictable, some "they got lucky there" kinda scenes, and that ucnecessary scene where they Vince has to burn himself ... but overall, the use of clues and stuff was good and everyone did a great acting job (even the kid, I was pleasantly surprised).

reply

I would much rather see a movie fail trying to do something new than see a movie like this stick to every single thriller cliche known to cinema. There are so many convenient, lucky moments in the film (Travolta arriving at the perfect second at the end) that it kills any suspense one might have somehow summoned.

I'm tired of people saying "It's predictable, but it's still good". As long as customers have that mentality, studios will continue to put out crap like this.

reply

Wasn't it pathetic that they so blatently dubbed over the bad language to get a PG-13? Did they think we wouldn't notice that the word being said doesn't match the actor's mouth?

reply

I liked it

*SPOILERS*

This movie was dumb, 2 or 3 out of 10 indeed. The fact that the mother absolutely did not want to believe the kid's story was amazing, it would have worked out if she wasn't a loving mother, but she was, so it just made the whole thing ridiculous. How could she not have a single doubt about this guy whose past she did not know but not trust her own son with whom she had spent her whole life ? Stupid. The ending was of the same type, look at what happens to the supposedly scary Vince Vaughn character, I think it's quite hilarious: first he gets burned, then he's hit with a baseball bat, then his leg is crutched by the car's door, then he fights Travolta, and he ends up electrocuted. It reminds of this episode of the Simpsons when Homer keeps falling in a chasm and bouncing on the rocks.

reply

anniedawg is right, anything with steve buscemi is worth watching, he's one of my favorite actors

reply

This came on TBS last night. I didn't bother watching it for more than 20 minutes considering every scene was predictable or completely unrealistic. The ending sounds comically absurd; that was a great episode of The Simpsons though (Bart the Daredevil).

reply

I enjoyed this film. I did think that it was predictable, and there were many plot holes, but it was very high on my personal enjoyment scale. Also I thought that Vince did an excellent job.

'This movie was so bad, it was funny': I couldn't agree more! It was so bad, I actually couldn't believe that is wasn't a spoof. Even at the end when the cops were apologising for not believe that Danny's step dad had killed a man, Danny was like like 'oh never mind, I accept your apology' (I mean he almost got killed because of it but as long as they said sorry....duh!). I cannot believe that the actors involved agreed to be in this film, which only leads me to conclude that everyone has their price. If unknown actors had been cast in this film, it would have been one of those made for TV dramas, put directly on to Hallmark. Very poor and anyone who feels like this film should gain a score above 3/10 is very easily pleased.

PS Isn't it majorally odd that Danny doesn't have any other relatives or friends to turn to with his dilemma?

reply

Sorry, but I don't agree. I thought this film was great. The acting was good and it had a fab ending. 10/10

For me, five is average. I usually won't watch anything that has lower than a six rating, as anything rated six or above I will generally enjoy. I would give this movie about 6.5 because of the great performances by Travolta, Vaughn and Buscemi. The kid was annoying, but he was supposed to be. Polo's character was a bit unrealistic and there were some plotholes, but the performances were great. The movie may have been cliched, but they used a proven, winning formula.

What does an A - F scale have to do with a 1 - 10 scale. How can anyone's brain not grasp the fact that just because a C = 70% in a academic setting, a 7/10 is NOT average on a 1-10 scale. How can you not see this?????? A- F has 5 separate marks, with middle mark being C. On a 1-10 scale, the middle is either 5 or 6.

Everything doesn't happen for a reason, people simply justify reasons for things that happen

I can't argue with THE TRUTH.

Incorrect.

this isn't almost as good as Gladiator.
Yeah... But maybe, regardless of how bad it is, it's equally as Interesting.

that retarded Teri woman. She was even annoying in Meet The Parents, which I love.
I think she was supposed to be annoying in Meet the Parents. She was way too easy-going considering all her psycho family put him through!

it may as well have been a Lifetime movie.
EXACTLY!! That's exactly what it felt like! I was trying to put my finger on that. You did it. Congrats!

i am obsessed with Vince Vaughn so if you watch it with an attitude that Vince Vaughn is Godly, then it's completely different then if you watch it expecting John Travolta to be amazing
I thought Vince Vaughn totally peaked with Clay Pigeons, which he was perfect in (talk about Godly!). But he's just lame and sleazy in this movie. In Clay Pigeons - he was John Travolta!

I love Vince in the bad guy roles
I just love Vince when he looks good and is dressed to kill! He looked like a lazy-eyed Psycho here. He had years-worth of circles under his eyes and came off as a perv, leering into the young boy's room. He was much cooler being Ted Bundy in cowboy boots.

I'm tired of people saying "It's predictable, but it's still good". As long as customers have that mentality, studios will continue to put out crap like this.
Agreed. 100%

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How could she not have a single doubt about this guy whose past she did not know but not trust her own son with whom she had spent her whole life?
Actually, it's "his" whole life, because she's his mother and has lived longer... Sorry, I'm the technical person who always has to correct people. It's a bad habit, I admit it. But anyway, this is Hollywood Movie Logic. Where mothers, and Most women, are always portrayed as stupid. Stupid and mostly soft. Men are sometimes stupid, but always Hard and Tough. It's disgusting. But it's the movies and this is another piece of junk from The New Millennium, perhaps the single Worst decade for film in history. And currently, still in progress. Just 2 and about a half more years left to continue making more TURKEYS!

I enjoyed this film
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It gets funnier every time I hear it!

GRADE: B+
More like F-
I know. There's no such thing. Well, this movie is so bad, it just invented it!

It was so bad, I actually couldn't believe that is wasn't a spoof
Well... it might have been. Who's to say?

I cannot believe that the actors involved agreed to be in this film, which only leads me to conclude that everyone has their price
That's the smartest thing anyone's said about this movie so far. Even me.

Very poor and anyone who feels like this film should gain a score above 3/10 is very easily pleased
Again - right on the money!

PS Isn't it majorally odd that Danny doesn't have any other relatives or friends to turn to with his dilemma?
Didn't his mother Move them at one point? I mean, I think that's how they met The Evil Stepfather in the first place.

I thought this film was great.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'm going to DIE if someone says it one more time. There's only so many times a person can laugh before they pass away. But, I LOVE to laugh - keep 'em coming!

I don't agree. The acting was good and it had a fab ending. 10/10
A fab ending? Where, where? 10/10? What movie, what? You're on the wrong message board. This is the one for Domestic Disturbance. With John Travolta, Teri Polo, and Vince Vaughn. I think you must mean this for the Harry Potter board or something.

I would give this movie about 6.5 because of the great performances by Travolta, Vaughn and Buscemi.
Um... that's a little HIGH just for a few "great" performances. They're not "great" enough for this movie, so you're rating is easily ignored.

they used a proven, winning formula
Incorrect. If this formula is a winner, they could have adapted it better. Which they didn't.
