Just started watching Enterprise, the intro shot them in the foot.

I grew up on the original series in the 70s. I watched TNG/Voyager/DS9 when they originally ran. When Enterprise came on, I don't think I was able to get past the opening theme. It is like an 80s song, I don't get it. So never got past the first episode.

Recently I have done a re-watch of TNG/Voyager/DS9 on Netflix since I hadn't watched them since they originally aired. Figured I would give Enterprise a chance.... It is good, but damn I have to fast forward over that opening intro. I wish it had a beautiful theme such as TNG or DS9.

I can't be the only Star Trek fan that just couldn't get past that 80s themed song. WHY WHY WHY did they use that crap.

I came to see if anyone is up for discussing the show and found people complaining about the theme song. Looks like I'm outnumbered but I like it. It really describes the struggle humans have in reaching the stars, especially the line about "they're not going to hold me back no more".

You might not like the song but the idea that it played any part in the show's failure is utterly moronic.

I'm just watching it on Netflix and also need to skip it every time. It really is awful.

I never liked the humanist self worshiping "its so beutiful what weve accomplished " feel the song was going for, Rather then the exiting "hurray I'm in space" feel of the other shows. We got over it though. It totally takes you out of the moment.

It's actually pretty good, at least compared to the other series.

Cause it invokes emotions like a child graduating rather then a heads up where in an unexplored part of space feel. The song has too much of a pat your self on the back "we can do anything" feel rather then the "lets find out whats out there" feel the other shows had.

It was a real WTF moment we all felt when the series first came out.

I'll admit I didn't like voyagers theme either. felt like a misguided bugle call that puts you to sleep rather then wakes you up.

I agree with you on the theme, but some guy had the charter to make that decision, and he blew it, but it doesn't necessarily touch anything else ... writing, acting, effects, characters, etc.

BUT, also, when I watched this on NetFlix, I learned just how long the intro was and learned to stream ahead to that spot pretty quick.

Yea I liked enterprises return back the the exploration of the unknown frontair the original series had.

Next generation still had it too but it was diving into political theatre while DS9 was nothing but political commentary with zero exploration. Voyager tried to go back to its roots but was more of a lost at sea period for star trek that felt empty with out contact with federation space. The NX-01 at least could still call home from time to time while still boldly going where no one had gone before.

There were maybe two episodes of the next generation series that I thought were even watchable, and at the time I was a big fan of Star Trek.

After I watched Enterprise, I was in a Star Trek mood, so I tried to watch Voyager and enjoy it, and certain aspects I appreciated, but it more of a chore to plough through than anything.

Its been a long road, getting from there to here.

Yeah, the choice of opening theme is odd for Star Trek but I guess they were trying to link it to our reality. The show was even titled 'Enterprise' during the first season run in 2001, but they decided to relabel as 'Star Trek: Enterprise' in 2002.

Seasons 1 and 2 had a few gooders here and there, but the pacing seemed off from the epic DS9, VOY, or TNG.
Seasons 3 and 4 were actually really good, and just when things were getting really good, it ends.

'Regeneration' is one of my favorite episodes, and it links really well with Star Trek - First Contact and TNG: Q Who.

I liked Enterprise it was a fresh more human and relatable show to the average lay person, the crew felt like they were doing something no one had really done before and had believable reactions like you and I would have in certain situatios. I actually didn't like DS9 or voyager. I liked enterprise right up until it went into the xindi series or that odd WorldWar II alternate timeline thing.

I actually love the intro, it reminds me if the 60s hope and the Apollo missions.

I won't lie I didn't like the intro, its probably the one thing I remember from the show from watching it at the time I could never shake. I think it was a misstep, but I thought a prequel show was a misstep to begin with.

After DS9, I think they wanted to explore a grittier Star Trek. A Federation that was weaker or in this case, non existent, therefore more vulnerable and with a lot more challenges, with characters closer to home - relatable, and the Human Romulan war.

I see this, but I think Star Trek is about moving forward, exploring further, meeting new species, tackling new obstacles, to go where no one has gone before. And this show, the recent movies and Discovery are moving backwards and going where we have already been....for years. If Discovery fails, I think it will be in part because of this, along with the glaring issue that it doesn't fit within the time frame they are shoehorning it into.

I disagree. Star Trek at heart is social commentary, hope, and has more depth than other scifi shows and all three can be found in strife, struggles, and hardship not on luxury, privilege, and the comfort of your own home I love history, and they're are wonders to be found in the past as well as the future. Ds9 personified this and it's my favorite show.

It does have social commentary, and they would have episodes focused on the past, sometimes literally, but it did not stop time and this includes DS9. The story of Star Trek touched on so many things, but it continued ever forward until this show. Enterprise was considered the worst of the series, the first nu Star Trek film was fun initially but the series has gone down hill since and even Discovery isn't without its complaints, all three are stuck in the past stagnating a series that was partially about hope for the future.

I hated the song but it had no impact on my view of the series. TNG had a great theme and I would fast-forward through it when binging anyway. (Not Voyager, though. I listened every time. Love that theme.)
