seemed Altmanesque

I watched maybe 25 minutes of this and just could not get into it. It reminded me of a Robert Altman film, a sort of rambling non-story that just sort of portrays the miscellaneous aspects of life. Of course, a lot of people absolutely love that sort of thing, but I don't.

well, since you didnt see all of it of course you're going to have more than a little trouble putting the pieces together. Just because it's not spoonfed doesn't mean it's a non-story.

Fast and Furious 4 is calling you.

Vin Diesel is the Marlon Brando of our generation.

I agree with the comparison to Altman, particularly "Nashville," in terms of the disparate plots that eventually converge and illuminate each other. "Nashville" is my all-time favorite movie. "Yi Yi" is very, very good. I hope to see it on a big screen in one sitting; if and when I do that, I may upgrade it from 9 to 10.

I love many of Altman's movies, but this one was not up to the level of his top work.

It seemed more Bergmanesque to me.

Nope, once again, Ozu is clearly the guiding influence.

The movie was too slow. Even at 1.5x speed I found myself doozing off and losing focus.
