boring

The film improved toward the end, but the middle just got to boring for me, i had to skip about 10 minutes, did anyone find this boring? Plus it was tedious how she kept saying all these 'witty' lines.

Also this was a stageplay, if anyone is familiar with it, how is the action on stage engaging, from the film all she does it sit there and talk, can anyone answer this? How was it staged to keep the audience going?

God bless you

I don't think there's any need for us to rip on pattythebro for an opinion. We can all express our likes/dislikes in response, but do we really need to criticize? If pattythebro thinks the film is boring, that's their perogative. Movies are open to interpretation by everyone who sees them. Just because it means something poignant to some people doesn't mean it will for everyone else.

I think we'd all agree that this film is meant for a mature audience. Let's prove it.

Decidely NOT boring. However, I will say, for someone who uses "God Bless" as a their signature line....it's rather ironic for them to find a film such as this boring.

This film portrays life and death quite extraordinarily. It's not easy to transfer something this real to any medium without losing something in the process. This is the most brilliant and touching display of life and death I have ever seen. For anyone who finds it lacking, I suggest they take another look when they have, perhaps, a few more years or some life experience under their belt. Unless of course they are entirely disaffected by humanity, in which case there would be no hope of them ever understanding Wit.

To anyone who asks me why I no longer work in the medical field (I'm a third year film student!) I say "watch Wit."

Smith, Boy do I understand what you are saying. I worked for 20 years on a orthopedic/neurosurgical unit. Lots of bone cancer and brain tumors. I had to stop after 20 years, I could not bear it any longer. I'm not saying that it was not a wonderful and rewarding experience for the most part, it was, but I just could not do it anymore.

What an incredible film--I now show it to homeless groups in the clinic/homeless shelters I work at. Despite the academic stuff in this film--my women always "get it." Never a dry eye in the house, including mine. This film crosses all boundaries.

I fail to see the irony.

i must say that i don't understand how you could think the film was boring. this is an extended monologue for the most part. a great deal of it is interior monologue with some asides thrown in there for good measure. as she says in the film, she is discussing "life and death, and not in the abstract. [she is] discussing [her] life and [her] death." she's taking us on the journey with her and sharing her feelings of incompleteness and regret. i found it intriguing, and the film certainly made me think about my own life. give the film another try. i hope it has a different effect on you.

While I did not find the film "boring," nor did I think it was exceptional. I felt that the doctors and the nurse were stereotyped, 2-dimensional characters, no matter how well done Prof. Bearing's character was. I can certainly understand how someone could think such a film was "boring," however, and just because someone doesn't like a film or holds a different opinion doesn't mean they are ignorant or inexperienced.

Comments like this annoy the hell out of me.

People like you will never be happy. When you portray a character in a way that's fitting to the nature of the actual character, it's stereotyping. When you portray a character in a way that's not fitting to the nature of the actual character, it's unrealistic.

Ugh.

Boring!!! Good grief. Pity they couldn't incorporate any CGI , car chases or explosions into the script eh?

The play and film address so many issues on so many different levels that to call it boring says nothing about the film but a lot about the poster.
One of the least boring films I have ever seen. I guess some people would call it boring if God himself explained the fabric of the universe to them. :-)

What a bizarre, silly and rather sad critique.
I'm so glad I'm not as shut off from myself, my feelings, and the world around me as you are.

A true work of art and poetry. I find it sad that you and people like you haven't the faintest idea what's going on here in this film. You have no soul, no heart, no concept of the one single fascinating, unknown, scary and very human tragedy in our lives and that is death. To face it head on and maintain some sense of dignity and bravery is beyond anything I believe you can comprehend as you think this boring? Wow.

reply

No, not at all. I hung on each word and even rewound several times to catch every nuance. I didn't move from my seat and scarcely blinked until the credits were finished. Emma Thompson could describe paint drying and make it fascinating.
