Rhys Ifans (movie spoiler included)

This movie made me a Rhys Ifans fan.
Before I saw him as William Dobbin, I had no idea Rhys was so seriously talented, as I'd only ever seen him in "Notting Hill" and "Little Nicky".

He completely blew me away in this movie :).

My heart broke for William Dobbin, and I cheered at the end when Amelia finally chased after him and they embraced.
I said out loud, "FINALLY!" :P

What are your thoughts?

He played Captain Dobbin really well. I fall to pieces everytime the part comes up when he asks her "Are you happy?".

I became a fan of Jonathan Rhys Meyers after this film. He was one of the cutest bad boys I've ever seen in these period pieces.

I usually loathe the guy, but he was fantastic in this movie. I didn't even realise It was him.

Phil Glenister's portrayal in the 1998 miniseries is so much better!

reply

Philip Glenister is good in everything. But Ifans was still good in this one.

I hated Philip Glenister's Dobbin. That man should never play nice guys. As Gene Hunt, he's lovable, as Dobbin, something about him just bugged me.

Pain is to pleasure as disco is to punk. You need to live through one to fully appreciate the other.

I had only seen him in Enduring Love and Notting Hill, where he plays the weirdo character, but I liked him.
When I saw him in this I said, "Thank goodness! He's playing a normal guy!"
I definitely liked him in this role.

I hear the drizzle of the rain. Like a memory it falls.

I had only seen him in movies like Notting Hill where he was a sort of goof-ball. Then I saw "Anonymous" recently, and he was very good in that serious role. This role gave him even more range. He did an excellent job.

He has a small part in The Shipping News, but he's good in it. I've had a crush on him since Nothing Hill.

He has a major role in Once Upon a Time in the Midlands and he is awesome in it!

I know this thread is a little old, but if you haven't seen Rhys in AUGUST RUSH, you need to. He's great in it.

Wrong Rhys.

This thread is about Rhys Ifans- Captain Dobbin

You're thinking of Jonathan Rhys Meyers- George Osborne. And yes he was great in August Rush.

>>Wrong Rhys<<

Woops! You're right. I saw "Rhys" and I knew Jonathan Rhys Meyers was in the movie, so I assumed we were talking about the same character. Now I see Ryhs Meyers actually played George Osborne, as you noted. My bad! LOL.

Loved Rhys Ifans in Notting Hill, though ! Had no clue that was the same actor who played Captain Dobbin!
