Kate Beckinsale says Harvey Weinstein yelled at her for not dressing sexy at movie premiere after 9/11

Kate Beckinsale said Harvey Weinstein's 23-year prison sentence is a "huge relief." Beckinsale, who worked on films The Aviator and Serendipity with Weinstein, detailed an obscene encounter she had with the producer years ago.

On Wednesday, the 46-year-old actress shared photos on Instagram from the Serendipity premiere in New York City on Oct. 5, 2001. Beckinsale claimed "Harvey insisted" on having the event so soon after 9/11.

"We all refused to go because holding a premiere mere weeks after 9/11 with the city still smoking felt like the most insensitive, tone-deaf, disrespectful idea possible," she wrote. "We flew into New York and somehow got through it."

Beckinsale continued, "The next morning Harvey called me and asked if I would like to bring my less than 2-year-old daughter to his house for a playdate with his similar-aged daughter I said OK."

The actress shares daughter Lily, now 21, with former partner Michael Sheen.

"I turned up and he immediately called for his nanny to take the babies to another room to play," she noted. "I went to go with them and he said 'No, you wait here.'"

Weinstein allegedly shut the door and repeatedly called Beckinsale a "c***" for ruining his premiere by wearing a white suit.

"I had no idea what he was talking about and started to shake," she wrote. "He said, 'If I am throwing a red carpet you get in a tight dress, you shake your a** you shake your t***, you do not go down it looking like a f****** lesbian you stupid f****** c***.'"

Beckinsale said she "burst into tears."

"I tried to say 'Harvey, the city is on fire, people are still looking for their relatives, none of us even felt the premiere was appropriate much less coming out dressed like it’s a bachelor party.' He said, 'I don’t care — it’s my f****** premiere and if I want p**** on the red carpet that’s what I get.'"

The Pearl Harbor star remembered Weinstein "screaming" and that he was "livid."

"I managed to get myself and my child out of there and yes that was one of many experiences I had that there was no recourse for, and falls under no felony," she continued. "But I WAS punished for it, and for other instances where I said no to him for years, insidiously and seeming irreversibly."

Beckinsale added, "Hearing that he has gone to prison for 23 years is a huge relief to me on behalf of all the women he sexually assaulted or raped, and I hope will be a deterrent to that sort of behavior in this and any other industry. Having said that, the crimes that are not crimes, the inhumane bullying and sick covert abuse for which there is STILL no recourse no matter who you tell (and I did tell), these too need to go."

The actress hopes and prays "we as an industry can start to actually outlaw all abuses of power and expose them and eliminate them, for all genders, forever." She concluded by shouting out Rose McGowan, who has been one of Weinstein's most outspoken accusers.

Yahoo Entertainment reached out to Weinstein’s representative, who noted the "very limited" communication lines he has with his client.

"It's easy to speak about one-sided matters now, knowing that for the limited time he has to communicate with the outside will likely be used tending to more urgent matters for him," said Juda Engelmayer.

After Weinstein was first accused of sexual misconduct in 2017, Beckinsale claimed he greeted her in a bathrobe during a meeting at his hotel when she was just 17. She also alluded to the obscene rant after the Serendipity premiere.

"I said no to him professionally many times over the years — some of which ended up with him screaming at me calling me a c*** and making threats, some of which made him laughingly tell people oh, 'Kate lives to say no to me,'" she wrote.

Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault. He awaits extradition to Los Angeles where he has been charged with other sex crimes.
