Director seems really into himself
He goes at length about his dancing, how smart he is and just seems to generally want everyone to know how amazing he is.

shareYour not very bright, are you? The James Whitney is this evil man's decendent and victim of child sexual abuse and also a victimizer himself as a young boy. He showed us both the ugliness and the beauty of this family trying to cope with lies, conflicts, abuses. If he's going to show his drunk and drug abusing aunts he has to also show the smart and well off.
By showing that some are talented and intelligent it also show that child rape and molestation doesn't just happen to the poor and degenerate people in our country. This is the Director's story as much as it is the rest of his family.

Seriously? Do you go up to adopted kids and tell them that they're not family because they're not biological or something?
shareFamily doesn't have to do with biology. If a person is adopted, they are certainly still part of the family.
Descendant implies biology. Just as the words "ancestor" and "offspring" do, and hence, they all exclude adopted children.

Well, he made a movie, and only someone who is into himself is going to obtain the resources to do that.
I don't think it was over the top. I do think his anger issues were not healthy. His aunts handled it much better, and even the one who was struggling the most had a saner outlook than he did. Threatening to push a wheelchair bound man into deep water. Whitney couldn't let it go, even with a guy whose last days are going to be lifeless any way.
I was very impressed with the maturity of the women in the family, able to just let it go, and go on with their lives, and make the world a better place.
Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
You really think the director just randomly put clips of him dancing without it being relevant to the documentary?? LOL, during that scene he was explaining that he got a phone call about his mom trying to kill herself and he danced anyways, kind of important to the movie. It boggles me that people go through life missing such obvious things, makes me wonder..

It shows how the cycle of abuse can be stopped and contrasts the effects of different upbringings.
