I Hate Dora the Explorer

I hate Dora the Explorer because it's just for children 8-. I'm twenty years old and I love cartoons, but being an adult I would never watch a childish educational cartoon like Dora the Explorer because that would be a very stupid thing to do. I guess it's good for children 8-, though.

Well, it does kind of push it when it coems to crappiness. I mean, half of the episode is silence with almost no animation while waiting for the viewer to say a monsyllabic word like "map."

I'd see it insults the intelligence of anyone over the age of 3.

reply

I grew up on Sesame Street, Barney, and Gilligan's Island re-runs. I still enjoy these shows. Dora the Explorer is nothing but an annoying character that stereotypes Hispanics and repeatedly says, "Tree, lake, waterfall, tree, lake, waterfall..." Wow, it teaches children so much. Please.

reply

Hey im 17 and I love Dora the Explorer, it's funny and teaches you basic spanish

reply

[deleted]

When you teach little kids words, you're supposed to repeat the word over and over again.

reply

Dora probably hates you.

This is the stupidest thread I've ever had the misfortune to stumble across.

The target audience is 2-4 year old children who think that Dora is actually asking them questions when there are extended pauses. It does exactly what it's supposed to do.

If you are able to read this thread, and you DON'T think it's below your intelligence and maturity level, then you have issues. The fact that you actually have to POINT OUT that it's below your intelligence and maturity level indicates serious issues in other areas.

Some people need to seriously get over themselves.

reply

Amen! The show is for little children. My 21 month old loves this show and is learning basic words from it.

Also, I see babble from others on these threads about it reinforcing Latin American stereotypes or that Dora is too "white." ?? Please. those comments are oohhh so tiring.

reply

I really love Dora the Explora and i'm 20. My niece who's 4 has learned a lot from Dora and my son who's 1 loves it too. It's good that it's bilingual. YAY for Dora

i am 13 and i like it, my friends like it, my 22 years old brother likes it , and my mom likes it. did you know that dora is a 7 year old latin girl? so you can never be too old to watch something like this even if it is under your maturity level!

Preach on, brother! Tell me what I wanna hear!

You know what, you are my idol--it's nice to see another Dora fan around here.

dora the explorer is on public television!!! I should be able to enjoy anything on public television!!!! i am part of the public, and I can't stand when i have to watch dumb shows like this. I'm a college student and have a lot of free time, and to waste my free time by watching this show is an insult to me and to all basic elementary spanish classes.

Also, Brittany spears should be on the show.

I'am 15 and once and a while I babysit a 3 year old. She loves Dora and watches it all the time. I hate that show with a passion I hate how Dora always says "I need you're help" it really gets on my nerves

reply

So YOU say.

Sorry, but I have a tendency to lash out at people who disagree with me when I'm in a bad mood. And boy, I am in one heck of a bad mood today...

i totally agree with whoever hates this show. i mean, talk about ANNOYING. do they have to SING everything??? (i.e. "backpack", "map", "we did it") the map repeats where they have to go at least five times, then dora repeats it another five times, like, we get it so shut up already! I have a 3 year old brother who watches this show ALL THE TIME and my parents did the undefendable - they bought him the tapes, so yay for me now i get to watch the same dumb episodes of dora over and over and over... AHHHH! im gonna go crazy!!!!

reply

Omg! It's a pre-school kids show!
I am the mother of a 3 yr old who thinks Dora and Swiper are the greatest, and thats cool because 3yr olds are the shows target audience.
Maybe some ppl here should get off their backsides and stop watching pre-school shows and coming on here and slagging them off, and try watching something aimed more at their own age, where they are more likely to find that "intellectual stimulation" you seem to be in dire need of.
When you guys have written your own award winning educational show that CHILDREN love, you may have room to talk, untill then - get a life.

reply

Did I mention I simply love Dora?

reply

Big up the explorer massive! lol

reply

Well, I'm a huge fan of shows like that, so it shouldn't be a surprise.

reply

You said it!

I love the last line "write your OWN award winning children's show"

I'm 34 and I love Dora, so does my husband (30).

My 3 year old son thinks she's the greatest, and my 10 month old baby sits by his side and watches it too.

Long live Dora!

reply

OMG, now I've found another Dora fan to make friends with!

Yes, hi there!

(Sorry, wasn't expecting a reply so didn't check the board)

We've only recently become Dora fans, been watching it every evening for the past 6 months, how about you?

What's your favourite episode?

Out of the dozens & dozens of episodes they've made, I'd have to say that my #1 favorite would be the "Tresure Island" episode!

Not bad, my favourite is the Missing Piece with Ricardo Montalban as the Wizard, my son's favourite is The Chocolate Tree - he loves doing the "bate, bate, chocolate" rhyme. (I think secretly this is also my husband's favourite!)

Good choice!

You know, it's a delight to know that there are some Dora fans. A lot of kids say it's uncool... What a shame.

reply

Thank you!

I must admit I don't know anyone else (in real life) who's said it's their favourite programme, and I never thought to watch it till my son did.

And, of course, once we started watching we were all hooked!

I shall have to investigate, see if there are any other Dora fans in the big wide world!

How about you, know any other Dora fans?

reply

Do any of you speak spanish?

reply

I do! I've been speaking it for years, & I currently take a Spanish class in school.

reply

Good for you! Is it fun?

Unfortunately it would be too confusing for us to learn Spanish as we have been learning French (new year's resolution), together as a family, but we always say the Spanish words when Dora is on.

(Of course, if we had known we would be watching Dora we would have chosen Spanish!)

My son is 4 and loves this show, so I tolerate it because of him. Don't get me wrong, this show is good for teaching critical thinking, but is geared at such a small range that I don't get how it sells so well. Your kid outgrows the videos by the time you get home from the mall. What I don't get most about this show is that if it's supposed to be so educational, why are the toys marketed for it anything but? What kind of skill is your kid learning from "Magic Hair Fairytale Princess Dora Doll" or "Dress and Dance Dora" or "Dora's Talking Kitchen". I can get the same toys without Dora on it for a fraction of the price.

I am really starting to lose my faith in Nickelodeon and anything they put out.

reply

Dora takes one plot and uses it over and over. At least Sesame Street used to do something different every week.

I'm not against liking a show aimed at pre-schoolers (I watched Sesame Street until I was seven.). I just wish the so-called creative minds behind these shows would put out a little more effort. Look at Oobi. Oobi is just a HAND! A friggin' HAND!

This calls for a combination of psychology and extreme violence!

I completely agree. I live in a family daycare home and help out all the time. I can appreciate the fact that kids love it but I really dislike it. Go Diego Go is just as bad, obviously. Just about every cartoon, whether geared toward 3 yr olds or 10 yr olds are pointless and teach nothing. Despite the fact that I like Spongebob, I think it is absolutely gross and don't think kids should watch it. Nickelodeon really has gone down the drain.

As a stoner and tv junkie. Im prone to being immature and loving silly cartoons FAIRY GOD PARENTS!!!!!! Whilst watching TV one day i saw this annoying girl and her monkey, at first i thought it was a thing about MJ, as you do i continued but then it paused and the two stared at me which really did scare the *beep* into me as most cartoons.no no no REAL cartoons dont go for scary approaches they go for humor. But it is the same in every episode. Also that fox is demeaning. Calling him swiper but not letting him swipe is *beep* annoying as that is his personal point in life to nick doras crap. Also that boots the monkey scares me as he where boots and talks and is yellow. Monekys should not be yellow also im against tv that educates as im learning new stuff and pushing out old stuff like..........my GCSE subjects and what my freinds names are. Damn you Dora!!!! * Shakes fists in rage*

reply

Not a huge fan of Dora but my 3 year old loves it so i watch it because it makes her happy.
