Faithful/Plot Question about the Devil

So I personally haven't found a way to believe in the existence of the Devil.

The reason of that is because I do believe in God, one who is merciful. So in that case creating the Devil that puts effort to defeat mercy, to me seems to be an unbelievable act.

I do believe in Free Will, and that people do have different amounts of Greed, and that is our challenge in life.

Now in terms of this film, at the end why Elliot services from the Devil and you see God and the Devil hanging out together playing chess...

A) Was the Devil character really suppose to represent the Devil, who tricks to be anti-God, but actually is part of God's 'good cop, bad cop' team to try to straiten people up

B) Or maybe an Angel (which I still have hard time understanding) sent by God to work on Elliot, faking as the Devil, and there still isn't an actual Devil?

the more times i watch this movie the more i get convinced elizabeth hurley's role is not the devil, right from the start all people around elliot treats him miserably, then hurley comes along and claims she knows everything about him and rather is playful and nice with him than menacing and scheming, and throughout the movie her purpose seem to be to set him straight and make him a more enlightened fella, spoiler, at the end when he manages to break the contract, she seems more revealed than disappointed, like it took him that long to figure it out, for goodness sake she even says "think about that" before she throws him in jail with the guy some interpret to be an angel. around austin powers and this board there keep being comments about elizabeth hurley's acting, i can't see it myself, i just think there is really nothing wrong with elizabeth hurley's acting in this, i think that's just a general view people get sucked into because she is a model, i'm so used of watching this now whenever it airs i can't remember my initial reaction to it as a young teen, but i must have been just blown away by hurley and her different hot outfits, probably what got me into the movie in the first place, notice how they also dress her up differently in austin powers, i think both her acting and looks is superior in this though, the best parts are the bits with elliot and her interacting, i tend to skip the dream sequences as this airs. my thought on this movie may seem over analysing and far out, but i've noticed there seem to be a variety of ways to interpret harold ramis fantasy movies.

Well I'm no Bible scholar, but the standard story is that God created Lucifer as a very powerful angel, who revolted and was banished to Hell. So not necessarily evil, but misbehaving, and more fun, and working to lure people away from a life of uptight churchgoing and self-denial, to enjoy life more in the short term, in exchange for eternal damnation. Some think the short term gains are worth the long term price, but you're not supposed to. And no one says the Devil is all bad, he's usually portrayed as being a fair dealer, if a bit of a stickler for the contract details.

That is a bunch of nonsense to me. As far as I'm concerned the Devil is the Ultimate form of Evil and I also believe it was actually him who was the serpent that tempted Adam and Eve. And don't try to convince me that's not true. He wants you and others to not want to be followers of God and Jesus so he can fool you into dying rejecting God and Jesus. Because he wants you in Hell where he'll have his demons torture you for all eternity. That is the goal of the Devil. The Devil inspires anger and hate. The Devil is the reason why anyone ever committed evil acts.

He has a lot of control over people who choose to reject God and the Bible. And foolish people who deny his existence along with God are just giving him what he wants. You can choose to reject the Bible all you want but what you are really asking for by doing that is to be tortured for all eternity. And deep down every person knows that. But some choose to ignore it because they're selfish and want to live their life in a bad way regardless of the consequences that come from that.

She's meant to be the devil. It's just that she's nice to Elliot that makes it confusing. The devil is meant to be a fallen angel who's pride and resentment towards humans caused his downfall. The devil is basically a prosecutor who points us out as unworthy. The movie points out nobody's perfect and we do fall short, but Christianity says that asking forgiveness and faith in Christ leads to salvation. Long story short, you're not going to get a completely religious explanation out of a comedy film. As to why God and the devil are playing chess, go read Job. The devil showed up to hang out with God there and the question of Job's faith and worthiness comes up.
