Has a lot in common with Stargate

Seriously, the plot for this is very similar to the plot for Stargate that came out in 1994. Let's see:

- Nerdy protagonist --> Daniel & Milo

- Nerdy protagonist studies ancient languages --> Daniel studied ancient Egyptian, Milo studied all ancient [Earth] languages and used that knowledge to figure out Atlantean

- Nerdy protagonist is laughed at by academic experts --> Nobody takes Daniel's theory about the pyramids seriously at the university; Milo's theory of Atlantis is laughed at by the guys in charge of the museum he works at.

- Old person with money and power helps out the protagonist --> An old lady whose dad dug up the Stargate in Egypt recruits Daniel; an old buddy of Milo's dad recruits him and funds the expedition.

- Uses ancient artifact to find a different world --> Daniel and the Stargate; Milo and the Shepherd's Journal

- Works with a secret group of soldiers to travel to another world --> Daniel with the marines; Milo with Rourke's mercenaries

- Travels to another world --> Daniel goes to the desert world of Abydos; Milo goes under the Atlantic Ocean, into caverns under the ocean floor, and goes to Atlantis

- Language barrier with the locals --> The people of Abydos speak Ancient Egyptian; the Atlanteans speak Atlantean---but they can speak English, despite never having contact with English-speakers before Milo's team shows up.

- Finds a girl there and falls in love --> Daniel with Sha'uri, Milo with Princess Kida

- Has to save the girl --> Daniel puts Sha'ri in the sarcophagus to heal her; Milo has to keep Rourke from kidnapping Kida while she's a host to the Crystal of Atlantis

- Everyone goes back home except the hero --> Daniel stays on Abydos (until the tv series starts up) while his friends go back to earth; Milo stays in Atlantis while the others go home rich; both heroes are with their love interests.

I liked it better than Stargate.
