This film is for Sh*t.

Sorry but this crap is so below Carpenter's talent I almost wonder how high he was when he made it. The production values alone are below most straight to DVD films. I love John's work but this little bastard needs to be put down.

I AGREE!!!

If you put JC's GOOD movies and BAD movies opposite each other on a scale, the BAD movies are starting to tip the scale in their direction.

WHO THE *beep* CUT THE CHECK FOR THIS CRAP?!?!?!

This movie was so bad it wouldn't even stick the screen.

If the Trolls wouldn't flame good movies IMDB should have the top 100 worst movies of all time. This is easily in my top 10 that I have seen.

reply

What is a "CHECK"?

reply

Nuts to you all. I love this movie and watch it again and again-it's one of my all-time favourites and on DVD upscaled to 1080p it looks brilliant. The only downside to the film is the girl who plays the rookie-she is awful, but the rest, including The Stath, make up for it.

Same here.

Terrible movie. Acting was awful. Script was terrible. Action scenes were staged badly-notice how many people in the background are just running around randomly and how many explosions caused people to bounce into the air off hidden trampolines. And the music was just bad guitar shredding. Probably Carpenters worst film. And Ice Cube can't act-he just scowls.

reply

Definitely agreed when i first saw this movie, i was tired (and a little inebriated) and i thought it was awesome. A few weeks later I watched it again at my buddy's house and we just laughed all the way through it. From Ice Cube's "Plan B" to the final scene, it all was like a comedy. The only good thing about this movie was the films score (which somehow seemed just right) and Jason Statham's acting. 3 1/2 outta 10.

reply

It's not one of my all time fave movies, but *beep* I genuinely like this movie. I really don't see why everyone hates it.

Some may never live, but the crazy never die.

He DOES just scowl. So true.

And the script was terrible. Hearing Pam Grier yell "Who goes there" nearly had me rolling on the ground in laughter.

Do yourself a favour and mosey on over to youtube and watch "An intimate look at the acting process with Ice Cube".

reply

The soundtrack rocked.. Carpenter and Anthrax did an ace job.

reply

You tell em' what more could you want. Zombies, decapitations, hot chicks in tight lycra and Ice Cube - well just being chillaxed. I don't know about everyone else but I don't watch movies to be idealogically challenged I watch them to be entertained. Nuts to you Rhion.

You yokels dont understand the concept of B movie. If this movie doesnt put a smile on your face you have a stick up your ass.

reply

They Live was a great example of a B movie. Big Trouble in Little China is probably the best example of a B movie.

This is much worse than a B movie.

reply

Hey,

you should read Tom Whalen's brilliant essay on this movie: "This is about one thing: Dominion". Should be somewhere on the internet. Sheds some light.

Cheers

A.

reply

that essay is here:
http://library.indstate.edu/about/units/rbsc/obscure/PDFs/whalen_itswhat.pdf

but having read it, i still think the film is poorly made. maybe it is conceptually brilliant, but if the audience can't parse those concepts out of the crap on the screen, it really doesn't matter, does it?

reply

Guess you're right on that - if a movie gives you a hard time interpreting its content one can ask whether it wouldn't make more sense to make it a bit more accessible for the audience - and I agree concerning the budget (listed on imdb) it might have resulted in something better than that. Let's see what 'The Ward' turns out to be - I hope for the best. Still love the concept of GOM though.

reply

Yeah... It's just so bad. It's not a B movie, I don't even think it's trying to be a B movie. It's not a clever, retro sci-fi schlock fest. It's just bad.

"Bad" movies are good because they know they are bad. This one thinks it's Aliens and Total Recall and The Thing, but with a, I don't know, an MTV flavour?

I wanted to like it. Natasha Henstridge is hot. Anthrax co-wrote the score. The enemies are zombie type creatures. That all sounds good to me. But it was just so *beep* awful.

The acting by Henstridge was particularly bad. The camera effects looked like something I made at Telemedia in grade 7, like public access channel *beep* The dialogue was painful. So disappointing.

John Carpenter's worst movie by far.

The ONLY good things were Jason Statham and the musical score.

reply

there where no scares, no suspense, the 2 co leads where wooden and badly acted, the support where cliched and badly acted, all of the dialogue was bad, The sets looked cheap, the action seemed pointless cheap and bad. smoke and air ramps like the friggin A team episode!?? if it was done on some sort of retro ironic way for comical effect Then i could understand but this purely lack of budget, originalty and skill. Its just plain Bad!!

reply

Out of all the Carpenter movies I've seen so far this is without a doubt the worst. The underlying concept is actually quite clever, revengeful ghosts, kinda like The Fog in space! hehe. To me this movie is mostly crap cause of the misplaced music, it destroys any room for tension and suspense and the few times Carpenter attemps to be scary it's overplayed and destroyed by the fact that it really isn't scary. It had potential to be good but, oh well, they can't all be perfect!

Aslo, Ice Cube really can't act... when are people gonna realize that?

reply

Totally agree. This is an awful movie. Carpenter will be remembered for The Thing, not for this.

I liked this movie, mainly because the psycho alien chief boss kept babbling "BAWAAWAWAWAW ARAWAWRAGGAWAWAW"

And it didn't make any sense to me :)

reply

Yeah, it's biggest problem is probably it's script. It forces the characters to do incredibly stupid things when they should really know better. It's also messily structured. If the movie was meant to be the main character's flashback, they should have stuck with that and not have inserted the flashbacks of other characters into her's.

reply

John Carpenter is not a bastard. His mum and I got hitched shortly before the little f*#^ker was born.

reply

Here's the thing, I just watched this for the first time this afternoon. I've seen worse, much worse. And I wouldn't call it a "B" movie either, though towards the end it did flirt with "B" movie-hood.

I wouldn't say it's horrible, it's mediocre, which in some ways is worse than horrible. I love Jason Stratham, but, well, let's just say his acting has come a long way in the past 11 years. And so has Ice Cube's.

The script killed it all, but Statham & Ice Cube did come a very very very long way since this outing like you said, I couldn't help thinking that there has to be some shame when they look back to this disaster. A 28 million dollar B-movie? Nuff said, lol

Got Zombies?
