Makes sense.

I can see him out there now, creating all those "WORST MOVIE/SHOW EVER!!!" threads...

Judging by his choice of movie roles in the last few years, I'd say "yes"

That makes no sense. It's not like the brain isn't attached to anything...like the brain stem and a spinal cord. I've got to read that book someday.

The book takes the brain-eating scene to a far more gruesome place.

It's made clear to the reader that enough of his brain is taken out that he winds up a vegetable... THEN they shoot him and kill him with a crossbow (at which point he's barely alive anyway.)

The end of the film kind of leaves his fate up in the air, to me anyway.

I hope not and I doubt it. I have heard of people living with portions of their brain removed but that is usually because the removed portions are dead or dying.

People have lost around 50% of their brain and lived relatively normal lives, but Paul did die. In the book he is shot with a crossbow, in the film he succumbs to his wounds.

Yup. People have strokes all the time that damage or destroy large portions of the brain. Functionally, a dead section of brain is no different than a chunk that's been removed.

It all depends on what gets affected. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they can't walk or speak. Others are lucky and are able to train other parts of their brain to take over for the dead/damaged parts, so they are able to walk or speak all over again.

I would certainly assume that he died with Lecter serving his brain for food. Of course, one could always speculate that he left him alive but somewhat impaired. LOL!
