Best SNES RPG Games

Gosh I miss those days of my life, playin' SNES RPG games, but I simply got my memories back by downloading a SNES Emulator and the best SNES RPG games are:

Chrono Trigger
The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III in the USA)
Final Fantasy IV
Illusion of Gaia
Secret of Mana

These are the memorable SNES RPG games I've ever played

My List(my favs, the best overall I think is Final Fantasy VI, then the rest)

1. Super Mario RPG
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III in the USA)
4. The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
5. Secret of Mana

If you haven't played Super Mario RPG, then you really should. Although, I have been a Mario nut since the Super Mario Bros. 3 days, but Mario RPG is still good.

Also, note that the best games listed are either Square or Nintendo, in my opinion the best game companies out there.

You guys are lucky, we Australians never got Super Mario RPG, but I've played it on a emulator, pretty damn good!

3. Final Fantasy 2 (4)
4. Earthbound
5. Lufia
6. Lufia 2

Those are my fave in order. the top 4 were hard to rank because their the best games in video game history IMO.

The top 4 would still be top 4 if i would have made an 'all time favorite' list. Zelda Ocarina of Time would be #5, Metroid Prime 1 and 2 would be #6 and #7 Super Metroid would be #8 and Super Mario RPG would be #9

reply

I suggest you try out Paper Mario on the N64 as well if you liked Super Mario RPG.

reply

Its a close call between Chrono Trigger and FFVII, but I enjoy Chrono Trigger more.

1. Chrono Trigger
2. Final Fantasy VII
3. Earthbound
4. Xenogears
5. Secret of Mana (Multiplayer is awesome!)
6. Final Fantasy VI

Wow, this is a great post. Im glad that people recognize that SNES made the greatest RPGs, because I have always thought so too. Anyways, Final Fantasy III is my favorite game of all time - such an amazing storyline, so many different complicated characters, tons of sidequests, fun gameplay, and probably the greatest video game soundtrack of all time. Chrono Trigger is my second favorite SNES game. It is also an amazing game, for many of the same reasons - also a very clever take on time travel. I also like Super Mario RPG -interesting to see a whole different type of Mario game. The Secret of Mana is another great game too.

Zelda's not RPG, it's adventure people! :) If you really wanted to, I suppose you could classify it as Adventure/RPG, but....

3. Breath of Fire
4. Earthbound

2.Final fantasy 6(3)
3.Final Fantasy 4(2)
4.Seiken Densetsu 3 (secret of mana 2)
5.Star Ocean

reply

dark raven - awesome choice, and don't listen to that other guy that said they're not RPGs (glad you chose Earthbound)
mine are:
Chronotrigger, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Terranigma, Breath of Fire 2, Lufia2, Soulblazer, and Illusion of Time(Gaia to the Americans)
Notice that Earthbound, Secret of Mana, and another (terranigma?) are also the second in a series?
2 is a magic number!! (agree?)

reply

yes it's very good, I also love golden sun 1 and 2

These are my favorites:

1. Earthbound- This is my 14th year playing video games and this game is the most fun I have had playing video games ever.

2. Chrono Trigger- All hail the sword-wielding frog. A classic rpg from the kings of rpgs.

3. Super Mario RPG- A Mario game codeveloped by Nintendo and Square. A greater combination there never were.

4. Final Fantasy VI- Tied with FFX and just above FFVII for my favorite FF game. Great characters, fantastic story, this is why you play rpgs.

5. Star Ocean- Get an emulator and play this game. One of the final rpgs for super famicon, this game's graphic style is superb. Innovative battle system. Quite a bit of fun. If you have played the equals on playstation and ps2 you may want to check this out.

6. Tales of Phantasia- Same graphic style as star ocean. First in the tales seris, really cool hybrid battle system that plays like a simplified fighter. Grab the rom and have fun.

7. Secret of Mana- fun, action based rpg with a good story and bright, colorful graphics.

8. Link to the past- The king of the action based rpg. All hail nintendo and the power of the triforce. I have probably beaten this game more than any other game I have ever played. I return to it and play it every couple of months. It never gets old.

If these were actually in order, it would be earthbound, link to the past, ffVI, and supermariorpg, and then the rest in no particular. Tell me if you have comments or disputes with my list.

Why do people always think Zelda is a RPG? It is not! There's no turn based battles, no HPs, MPs, and experience points (except in Adventure of Link).

Zelda: LttP is considered an RPG, not all RPG's are set up the same way. But thats not why I am posting.

- Chrono Trigger!
- Final Fantasy IV (II)
- Lufia 2 (My game was buggy, and if you even put it in wrong the save games would up and dissappear)
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (My first ever Zelda game)
- Super Mario RPG (I still think you should Mallow in Super Smash Bros., I know it will never happen, but here's hoping(
- and it doesn't count, but...... Zombies at my Neighbors! (I highly recommend it)

Really any RPG on the SNES but Secret of Evermore could be put here. Sorry to those that like it up there >.<

Please notify me of any typos up there and of course..."Go Don't Doing It Again!"

Earthbound is the one with Ness, from Super Smash Bros

My other favorite SNES RPG games are

FFV - Loads and loads of fun
Seiken Densetsu
Lufia & The Fortress of Doom
Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistral (that is a true classic)

Long live the SNES. By the way, who misses Link's sword zap in previous Zelda games.

reply

RPGs don't have to revolve around turn based battles, HPs, MPs, or experience points. It's about role playing and that is a big part of any Zelda game.

reply

1. Earthbound
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Terranigma
4. Secret of Evermore (controversial choice I know!)
5. Breath of Fire 2
