Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI?

Which one is better in your opinion and why?

Some say, both are best SNES RPGs and some even say, that they are the best jRPGs ever made.

The same question is on the FFVI board.

Final Fantasy VI. It just feels more epic, with the dozens and dozens of characters each mere gears in the machine of story, yet, at the same time, it makes you care so much about each cog. It's beautifully structured that way, hitting both the personal and, if you will, the political.

FFVI story, gameplay, and characterization disappeared during the second half of the game. It is a very flawed game and I am surprised there are so many people that find the game memorable.

Final Fantasy VI is not a "very" flawed game.

It may have flaws (everything does), but I don't recall any off the top of my head. It's one of the more perfect pieces of anything (be it a movie, a book, a game, etc.) that I've ever experienced.

The character development DOES NOT disappear in the second half of the game. The story arguably does, but the gameplay certainly does not.

Maybe the way the game is structured simply isn't your cup of tea, but it's done the way it is for a reason. The redemption in the second half of the game is what's supposed to drive you; your motivation stems from pouring your heart and time into the first half of the game, and getting to know this world that will only be destroyed by a mad villain. The despair and hopelessness we witness after the world is destroyed is conquered gradually by our need to regroup with our fellow heroes and right this wrong. Our quest then becomes one of redemption and regrouping. This is the point. So the story may slow down, but the gaming does not.

The character development is still huge in the second half though. There's no denying that. Some of the best character moments come in the latter half of the game. Not sure what you're smoking there..

I'm not a control freak, I just like things my way

Chrono Trigger; it's the pinnacle of all-ages/family role playing games and the magnum opus of the Super Nintendo.

The question is not fair! *because I can't answer it lol.

BOTH is my vote. I can't choose.

They're easily the best two RPG's ever-made, so it's splitting hairs. Chrono Trigger wins out due to the fight-system and music, but both win where it counts, and that's in creating the two best storylines in video game history.

More surprisingly to me is all the love that FF7 gets. Twice I've tried to play through the game, once getting about seven hours in and the second time getting about ten hours in, and I just lose interest. The story and characters feel so uninspired...in fact, it's actually what pulled me away from the FF series. I'd have loved to keep playing from FF8 and onward, but I've just assumed that the magic of FF6 is long gone.

Not only is it possible, it is essential
