Scariest game and scene?
I think the first scared me the most. Especially when the zombie turns around after munching on Forrest.

RE1
Dogs through the windows in the hallway
First appearance of the giant snake
Hunter hiding in the hallway close to the bathroom
RE2
Licker at the window
Zombie arms through the window
Licker through the mirror
RE3
none.
RE Remake
Crimson zombie getting up
Snake's 2nd appearance
RE4
none.
I remember my friend told me he rented RE 1 for PS back then and right when the dogs came through the window, he threw the controller down and turned off the game.
I heard that RE 2 and RE 3 on the gamecube are terrible. is that true?
shareWell, they are just ports, meaning the same games from PS2 that just transferred to the system. So, there's nothing new.
Also, the price, for some reason, is ridiculous. Everytime I see it, it's at least $30 used.
Fan of all the games, played them all to death... almost literally too.
The scariest moment for me has been said on page 1 - the licker jumping through the 2 way mirror in the interrogation room. (the first time I played through)
I think if you put yourself into the character (imagine YOU are them) then the scariest scene would easily be fighting William Birken, on the train, knowing he could easily kill you (he'd turned into some sort of ... plant...? I forget the precise details) and knowing you're against the time too (self destruct.)

Resident Evil 1 definitely scared me the most when I was a kid. I still never came around in beating it since the music is so eerie, and dark. Everything about it is so scary. Every door I came by, I was scared sh*tless.
The scariest scene, for me, was Nemesis crashing through the window.
What we think, we become.
-Nemesis in general scares me (just the fact that he's lurking around Raccoon City and can pop out at any time.) RE3
-Hearing Mr. X roar but not seeing where he is in RE2
-The giant spider under the ice in Code Veronica
-Lisa/crimson heads in REmake
-the screams coming from beneath the lockers in Code Veronica
etc
"You're a woman, Harry"
Creepiest - RE2
Jumpiest/loudest/overall scary - RE1
And you're a tool
That thing that jumps through the 2-way glass in RE2. I pretty much died of a heart attack.
You go ahead, let your hair down
in RE1, the first time you encounter a zombie, when its munching on someone, and you see it from beind, and then Movie scene kicks in, and the zombie slowly turns its head and looks at you. that part was scary, was the first time i played RE1 back in 1999, on ps1, when i home home alone, with the lights off, ooooh!
Also in RE2, the part when you go into the morgue (or what ever it was) and theres dead zombie scattered on floor and on the stretchers, and then all of a sudden all the zombie come alive!!!! that made me jump
Glad to see I'm not alone on the Nemesis through the window part. Either that or the first Chainsaw guy/creepy villagers attacking you at the beginning of Resident Evil 4.

I think the scariest is RE2 when you open a door and it get's into the whole door sequence but suddenly two zombies pop up and this crazy music starts playing. Scared the life outta me.
shareThe first two games are the scariest. In the original Resi, I was always scared of the guardhouse (that music!), the mansion basement (dark and full of twisting corridors), the underground and the labs. Scariest moments include the dog jumping through the window, the climb through the grave into the basement and the debut of the hunters.
Resi 2 is a bit more SCHLOCKY in its horror. Scariest moments for me: Mr X crashing through the wall; the zombies coming to life in the RPD morgue; the licker crashing through the two-way mirror; the descent into the darkness under Irons' office; baiting the alligator in the sewers.
Resi 3, I thought, was too adrenaline filled and action packed. It lacked the suspense and tension of its predecessors.
Anyway, for real scary, I think the original Silent Hill takes the cake. Brrr!
Yes, I shall certainly choose revolutionary France for my holiday again next year.

First game is the most unsettling. It's creepy as hell. The music is just sick, particularly when you're heading to the aquarium. Those bastard Hunters, argh.
Second isn't really that scary. Third relies more on short sharp shocks, everytime Nemesis jumps out. The fourth & fifth, well....

ive only played 1,2, 3 and thats coz i loved ps1 (still do), and when ps2 game out then i never did bother with that or any other game console. how are the latter RE games like? i mean the ones released after 3?
share^ They have little in common with the first 3. They're basically just shoot-em-ups. 4 isn't so bad but 5 is pretty lame.

OK, so I'm 5 years late responding to this topic, but I will give my scariest scenes.
Resident Evil 0: Spiders. Funny, I hate spiders, but I could tolerate that scorpion and that centipede.
Resident Evil Director's Cut is by far the scariest game still to date for me. That haunting music, haunted house atmosphere, the jump out scenes. This is why I favor this game the most. The parts the scared me most in this game are: giant spiders, dog crashing the windows, hunters jumping out from around corners, chimeras in the lab.
Resident Evil Remake: Crimson Heads rising up and running from around the corner, giant spiders. This game may be fancier looking than the original, but it wasn't as scary for me.
Resident Evil 2: licker in the interrogation room, alligator, giant spiders (especially in that waterfall sewer tunnel where they crawl around the camera), Mr. X crashing through the wall twice, crows crashing the windows, lickers dropping from the vent in the lab, dropping through the floor in the library, zombies crashing the boarded window in the green hallway.
Resident Evil 3: Spiders in the clock tower and the park (I know, I sound a broken record), Nemesis crashing the window, but it was suspicious something was going to happen, the beta hunters in the hospital.
Resident Evil Survivor: Spiders and the black tiger in the gutter.
Resident Evil CVX: Giant spiders (black widow), Sweeper jumping through a window.
Resident Evil Dead Aim: The dark atmosphere of the ship.
Resident Evil Gaiden: None, it was pathetic.
Resident Evil Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles: Spiders again.
Resident Evil Outbreak 1, 2: Spiders and scissortails and that axman in the hospital that was consumed with plants.
Resident Evil Revelations: So far I've only played the first 3 episodes and what scared me are those blobs on the beach in the very start. They look like they can rise up and eat you whole.
Resident Evil 4: Those dogs that jump through the walls of the hedge maze and the novistators in the castle.
Resident Evil 5: Really nothing, but I get a little startled when a character gets hit by the sunbeam in the Worship area of the ancient ruins. It's their loud reactions that startle me.
Resident Evil 6: I only played through Leon's game and one chapter of Chris's game and nothing scared me.
As you can see my biggest weakness overall is the giant spiders and being startled by jump outs.
