I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I bought it a year or two ago for $12.99. If I knew then it would become a collector's item now, I would have bought every copy they had. :) But, seriously, this sucks because people interested in watching The 10th Kingdom for the first time will be reluctant to buy it because of the outrageous price. It's a shame, because more people should know about it.
I can confirm, the miniseries is being re-released to DVD. Release date is 03/19/2013, and you can already pre-order from Amazon.com for only $8.99.
The question I have about this re-release though is this: did they re-master the source for higher quality?
The reason I ask is that I have the DVD's already, bought back in 2001 I think was, and the video source quality isn't very good at all. In particular, there is a lot of visual artifacts during sequences of fast motion, or camera panning, or both (worst of all). If the re-release is also remastered for noise reduction and smoothing, I might be willing to spend the money to get it again.
Wish I'd seen this thread when it first was posted. I picked up this and several other Hallmark mini series of that time period on DVD at the dollar store. I should have bought the whole stock of them back then.
Amazon has the cheap copy now, too. We're watching it right now. It's different from the original only in that it's divided the same way it was originally shown on TV, with each episode replaying the title sequence.
Other than that the quality seems fine and we're quite happy with it.
Movies are IQ tests. The IMDB boards are each person's opportunity to broadcast their score.
Holy crap! As much as I love 10th Kingdom, there's no way I'm paying 70+ dollars for a 5-part mini-series on DVD. Luckily, I found 10th Kingdom on DVD at Super Target for five dollars which was awesome last year.

The reprint that calls it an "epic mini-series" is less than seven dollars.
