You know what I don't understand?

First off, I've always loved this movie...it's cheesy, fun, and a good comedy romp. Plus, it really did introduce me to the world of "competitive" cheerleading because I didn't no it existed.

BUT...

At the end of the movie the Clover's win and are presented with a check for 20,000 bucks.

If the Toro's won 5 times, and were presented with that same amount of money they would've won 100,000 dollars over the past 5 years...

They didn't have $2,000 in their account to pay Sparky Polastri without doing a car wash and borrowing money from Darcy's dad ?

Maybe the school took it? I don't know, that is a good point.

That money went to good use. When they go away to competitions, who do you think pays for the hotels and travel? The school isn't going to foot the bill with the squad has money.

Good question. For one thing, it might seem suspect because typically, in cheerleading competitions, there is no cash prize. However, at least is the case in Canada, when whole teams (and not individuals) garner cash prizes (I'm just going by how we did it for my hockey team), the money goes back to the school's athletics department - it's not the team's to do whatever they want with it (though it helps, as when budget cuts cause administration to cut teams, they're less likely to cut a team that brings in big bucks for the rest of the programs).

I guess as well their parents wanted them to save money towards their college funds just as a guess
There are so many people on a squad so each of them get their share so if there are 10 people on a squad they need 2 grand each and to some people that can be easily spent in a year

Yeah, well.... you're not supposed to notice that :)

Maybe they didn't want the school to know that they were hiring a choreographer for their routine.

reply

It goes to the school, as it is the school's money that sent them there.

Cheerleading is incredibly expensive. You usually have two sets of uniforms for each member (plus pompons, shoes, etc...), summer training camp, travel to competitions, travel to games, etc... Just the uniform alone will cost over $100, camp another $1,00-2,000 per person, and who knows how much for the travel. A squad could easily burn through $20k a year.

reply

Are you serious? A cheerleading uniform costs over $100?

reply

Maybe the money pays for the competision.
