lazy writing in the last episode

the one about the student rape case

SVU is decent because it depicts human psychology in a realistic manner - people respond the way that they'd normally respond in various situations.

But in this episode - the trial bit felt very off - especially near the end, where the rapist admitted the truth. It felt like - we have no idea how to make this happen, so let him just admit it for no particular reason. I mean, if they couldn't find a good argument/reason that would cause the rapist to admit the truth during the trial, they should have just let him go and maybe get him into prison in one of the latter episodes after he does something else that's criminal, if they want the justice prevail so much. All in all, this felt very, very forced - no pun intended.

Anyways, lazy writing - I wonder if the legit writers are on vacation.

I agree, though I felt that way with many other episodes this season.
I was believing the boy for a bit, until Peter riled him up..which they use A LOT on this show to get them to confess.

reply

I think the 'getting him riled up' bit is what felt off - he didn't say anything convincing enough to rile him up.

reply

I agree.

Also annoying now when they finally have a false accusation episode (they are rare) the girl still ends up as the victim in the end. This show gets more and more feminist every year.

reply

It seemed like they really wanted to be pushing the boundaries or make a splash, because they dared to make an episode about the girl lying about a rape i 2018. But instead they just had to make him a rapist in the last minute, because hey all men are rapists or something. I feel like the show in it's earlier seasons made us question and discuss subjects, but now it's just preachy.
It really didn't sit well with me.

most episodes are pretty good, but not that one, also the newest one S19 - E19, all about liv being the truthful one that got that poor battered mother killed, that's on Liv, I'm getting tired of her and would like to see her retire, I like the rest of the cast, they never had a bad character after Meloni left, they are all good

Ep. 19..... was bad. I mean, they got a girl killed - and yet, they just said to themselves, 'oh well' - and moved on, while fully knowing who is the killer and where he lives - and that he's about to receive 50 mill from the police department. I mean, even in real life - if this were to happen, I'd expect a mysterious accident to happen to the dude. Incompetence.

Not sure if MH has anything to do with the writing, but it's been really bad, they are trying to send a message but I don't know what it is,

I agree. The episode lacked a "read world" quality that the earlier episodes had. I was surprised at the foolishness of the defendant's attorney - after the girl admitted she had fabricated the first accusation the defendant should have been advised against testifying. I know, I know, it's just a television show.
