Moulin Rouge vs The Great Gatsby

A few days ago i saw great gatsby,it was a very beautiful movie the costumes, the warm colors, the plot. Also dicaprio was very good,Mulligan was very sweet although she was play a bicth in the movie and Edgerton was awesome as Daizy's husband.(only tobey maguire was a litle silly ,he played peter parker again)
BUT i couldn't love that movie as i loved moulin rouge.Moulin rouge has a very simple plot, the picture isn't so good as Gatsby's.But moulin rouge is a movie of 2001 it's almost 14 years old!!!!It's like you compare hobbit which realised in 2013 and lord of the rings the fellowship of ring(2001)!The LOTR changed the fantasy movies and moulin rouge changed the musicals we know(i don't know any other musical which is comedy and drama at the same time and has modern songs although the plot take place in 19 century)I love both movies but i believe moulin rouge is far better for many reasons.
Any thoughts.Do you agree or disagree??

I just watched Moulin Rouge for the first time in a very long time, and was thinking how great it would've been to see on the big screen in 3D like the Great Gatsby. They're both very amazing visually and I don't care for 3D necessarily but it worked so well in the Great Gatsby! Nothing compares to Moulin Rouge though :)

Moulin Rouge hands down!

Sure 'The Great Gatsby' had better visual effects and somewhat less OTT moments, but I still much prefer Moulin Rouge. I absolutely love the great balance between the simplicity of Moulin Rouge's plot with the mix of cheesiness & seriousness in the movie, the beautiful sets & costumes, the awesome soundstrack, and the acting. I initially watched this movie about 10 years ago and I still love it even till this day.

Have you seen The Greatest Showman yet?

It is no Moulin Rouge.

Moulin Rouge wins. It's unapologetically exuberant and gaudy. The Great Gatsby should be, but it's not. It's too timid. Also, I hated the casting choices for pretty much everyone, which hurts me to admit - di Caprio has made almost no bad movies.

Gatsby by a long shot for me.

I wanted to like Moulin Rouge, and had looked forward to it (UNlike Gatsby, which I expected to be awful). So it was a shock that I hated it so much I couldn't finish it. Probably only made it less than halfway through.

Whereas Gatsby I've seen 5-6 times, and will watch it several more I'm sure. Unlike many, I loved Tobey Maguire in it. He even looks a good deal like F. Scott, on whom his character was based.

"Moulin Rouge"!

I mean "Gatsby" is a good film, but it's a standard drama and nothing out of the ordinary. Whereas "MR" is a unique film, with a completely unique visual style. I also found it a very entertaining and surprisingly moving film, and just plain FUN. "Gatsby" isnt nearly as fun.
