Does the fact that he decides to exact revenge on them after failing to pursue the legal course of action...
... prove that, as depicted here, with several male perpetrators and a young female victim (to give simply one example), r@pe (sorry, I don't well too well these days typing the word out loud)...
... is bad, wrong, troubling etc for reasons OTHER than it being simply a matter of LEGAL OFFENSE?
I ask because, I have often seen in arguments, not that it is always terribly wrong but again depends on circumstances, people when talking about 'that subject' at times ONLY or EXCLUSIVELY referenced THE LAW, but as THIS movie, for one, proved, and several others, its problematic and offensive on more levels than just a legal one.
If those guys say maybe stole something however small or otherwise from their victim, or beat them up (well, depends on severity, but of course its all bad and wrong) or insulted them (may OR may not be legally punishable, but again, depends) etc and they evaded justice by law, would the man close to the victim be driven in any way whatsoever to exact violent revenge on them? Even if by law knowing it is still not permitted? And yet in this INSTANCE? No doubt about it!
I also wonder. Yeah, I know those guys were probably very selfish, not giving a damn, maybe having something wrong with them mentally or just not being civilized enough, so they probably didn't care too much or think this through. But let's say they DID suspect that even if they evaded legal justice, someone close to the victim may start to exact vengeance on them, would they have changed their mind and pursue instead CONSENSUAL sexual options, if sexual motive (however inexcusable overall) really WAS the factor and let's say for argument's sake they didn't necessarily WANT to completely hurt or traumatize their victim (and even loved ones near them) for life (but maybe they couldn't think this through, or maybe who knows, they had some sadistic inclinations and enjoyed outright hurting others, "sexually" OR otherwise, again, only trying to understand their motive, bad as it OBVIOUSLY IS though), well, couldn't they have avoided it? Or were they, in their own way, too uncivilized and say even criminally spoiled to give it even remotely a second thought?
People often say, however rightly, stuff like don't do this its bad, its illegal etc. True, no qualms there. BUT, sometimes if not often, law does NOT work in ways its intended to and often guilty perpetrators are let go, but it not only angers some but causes them to take law into own hands, as depicted here. Its as if there's a bigger reason for certain things being punishable other than 'law says so', but here, also understandable in bigger picture, and yes I do know that this matter for instance leaves bigger mental scars and whatnot, hence...
I ALSO WONDER - do films like this, and if not, SHOULD they, get people to think in very much own ways? "Hey, if we do this, we will be seen as BAD GUYS and people may exact vengeance on us if we somehow evade law" and if NOT - what does this say about HUMAN NATURE, besides how we SHOULD be, if films alone don't totally influence us?
