I suggest selling a kidney or somehow scraping up the money to buy the big, awesome boxset. It has all 4 seasons, the bonus Music cd, a tote bag, and director's clipboard.

I have seen it new on Amazon for as low as $75.
Totally worth it.

I cant afford to buy all I am only 15.

The third is the best one but I think season two is underrated.

reply

Personally, I would go with the 2nd,3rd, 1st 4th, in that order, assuming you havent seen every episode

I've seen them all. =]

There is a bay where pirates hang out. Your journey may take you there... or it may not.

reply

I would say 2nd or 3rd.

They all have their charm.

Season 1 was (obviously) the first season, and also was the most improv heavy. So if you're into the loose style that's the one for you.

Season 2 isn't generally as liked, but the writers did a really good job of working a season long sub plot underneath all the jokes and individual episodes. It was probably the most well written season story wise, but there are times when the jokes suffer.

Season 3 is probably the best overall season. It has the right mix of comedy and plot, and the animation really jumps to another level.

Season 4 is also good. It is kind of a hybrid of 2 and 3, with a season long (fairly dark) sub plot worked underneath all the episodes.

All that being said, there is one HILARIOUS bonus feature on the season 1 DVD called baby pranks.

The commentaries on season 4 are probably the best though.

Season four does have some excellent commentaries, I like the commentaries, extras like the chat with Brendon and Melissa and the profile on the voice actors and guest appearances on the season two set alot. Benjamin's extra for non-Home Movies fans on season three I love too, especially the making of part at the end.

best seasons according to the quality of the episodes?

i'd say

3- amazing mixture of everything that makes home movies great, comedy, character development, clever plot etc.

1- love this season, alot more humor than the third season but less interesting plots.

4- this is a mixture of season 2 and 1 put together, two being the dullest for me(not saying i don't love this season, just in comparison it's dull). Got deep into the lives of the people, so it got a bit darker.

2- Wasn't a big fan of this season(like I said still love it), episodes seemed drawn out but still had great moments.

fin

you hear that? it's our song.

reply

they are seriously all awesome

reply

hm... i don't really see the season-long subplot in Season 4. maybe its less pronounced than in season 2.... how would you describe it?

reply

now that i've had a month to think about it, you should buy season 3.

Somebody's had too much to think.

reply

I'd say the final one.

reply

I personally enjoy them all, but I miss squiggle vision after season one. That was kind of a trademark feature for me.

reply

Get the megaset for Christmas if you can. Or, if you're a huge music nerd like me, get season 4 for the bonus CD.

reply

I'd say,

Season 2

and then

Season 3
Season 4
Season 1

I know this is weird coming from a Season 2 lover, but I thought Season 1 was kind of boring in comparison. It was still very funny, it just took a while to get to the really funny jokes. I know that this is what people complain about for Season 2, it's just what I think. I just loved Season 2's style!

reply

2 is my favorite. History, alone, is one of the best episodes (imho).

Then 3, 4, and 1.

As the show goes on the humor becomes increasingly more overt. So if very subtle, very dry humor is your thing than definitely go for 1st or 2nd season.

Personally I like 3 the best. It has a great mix of rather subtle but still laugh-out-loud humor, and the simplistic, almost inanely so, plotlines that were more or less abandoned in the 4th season. Really great stuff, though not quite as funny as the season 4, but makes up for it with purity of aesthetic.

So 3, I guess.

3 is the best followed by 2. 1 is very good but the characters are not as well developed and the animation is not good. 4 is good but there's a sad undertone i think. i rarely watch 4.
