Sam, Bill, Neil all grow up, go to college, get good jobs, happy ending

Lindsay is tough, but I think she does eventually go to a good school, and live up to her potential. Even during the show, when she was hanging with the Freaks, she still excelled in school, and didn't hide it. Despite ditching the mathletes, she still wanted to be smart...just not revolve her life around academics like her dad made her.

Daniel - I think something in him clicked in the last episodes. I can see him buckling down and graduating, and getting his life together. I like happy endings, and I think he gets one.

Nick - Same with Nick. He moved on from Lindsay, and started being a normal guy (ie not a burnout). He definitely seemed like he would go to college and do well as he matured.

Ken - I think Ken just skates by in mediocrity...maybe even having Amy leave to go on to bigger and better things.

Kim - I would love to see her escape her burnout life, but I just don't see it. She almost embraced her spot in life.

It would have been nice for the writers to know this show was being cancelled, and they could have given us a bigger glimpse into these characters lives...but it was an awesome show, and great characters I grew to love.

There was an earlier thread on the same subject, but I suspect it's gone now. I don't exactly remember what I said there, but:

Lindsay: honors graduate of University of Michigan and its medical school. Internist in Chicago.

Daniel: Auto mechanic, doing okay. Married to kim for 6 years before divorce. Two kids by her, who he's actually fairly good with. Lives with a girlfriend 15 years younger than he is.

Nick: Went to community college for two yeasrs, then tranferred to Michigan State. Sales Manager for a small producer of plastic floats used for lanes in pools amd swimming-area boundaries.

Ken: Owns and manages his own small company. Got this situation by inheriting his father's large company and managing it for a few years.

Kim: Divorced from Daniel. Five kids by three different fathers. Frequently drunk.

Heh. Was this an intentional reference to Linda Cardellini's long term stint on the show E.R., set in Chicago?

lol - man that's a harsh future for Kim there!

Probably true in real life.

Agree.

Lindsay would abandon her "freak" phase for sure, go to college and graduate school and become some type of professional. Hopefully she would learn to stop being so self-centered and self-righteous.

Didn't Daniel always wear a U.S. Army shirt? I could see him barely graduating high school with help from Lindsay his senior year (needed fewer credits in the 70's-80's and him dating Lindsay was inevitable) and then maybe working some minimum wage jobs until he realized he needed a job with some stability and a pension and decided to enlist. More importantly, that would be the way for him to get far away from his family. The military has lots of underachievers like Daniel from similar situations.

I don't think Nick would ever end up going to college. Even if he signed up to attend a community college, he wouldn't go to class. I could see him doing the whole small-time band thing (with a different set of people who were more serious about it) and getting small gigs that literally pay you peanuts and working minimum wage jobs until he did end up joining the Air Force like his father and brothers.

Ken was supposed to be from a well-off family and I think he's definitely the type that would end up becoming a townie and be content to end up working for his family in whatever they did for the rest of his life. He and Amy would break up when she left for college.

Kim. I'm certain she would have the toughest future of all. Her and Daniel would have split up for sure, probably right after the final episode. It was obvious from the start that Daniel and Lindsay were going to hook-up at some point. If they had a S2, I have no doubt it would have been one of the main plots and how everyone dealt with it, especially Kim and Nick. After high school, Kim would end up with lots of low-paying jobs and lots of a-hole boyfriends, including at least one that would knock her up. I think she'd become her mother.

Lindsay and Kim went on that summer trip with those two never-before-seen characters with the VW van and were never heard from again. Their disappearance causes ripples throughout the small school...

Sam, Bill and Neil's bond becomes even stronger as Sam and Neil are devastated by Lindsay's disappearance, but the strength of their friendship gets them through. They eventually become financially successful as their interests lead them to developing a start-up company that sells for millions.

Daniel, Nick and Ken get scared straight and begin to apply themselves. Nick becomes a song writer, his first notable hit being "My lady L" a heartfelt song he rewrote in honor of his lost friend/love. Ken, having found the love of his life in "tuba girl" follows her to college and marries her; he becomes a high school counselor. Nick continues hanging out with the A/V crew through high school, eventually increasing his school performance to mediocre. After high school goes on to developing a career in tv production.

Actually, it was Daniel, not Nick, who was hanging with the AV squad at the end.

Here's an article where series creator Paul Feig talks about vague thoughts on a season 2:

I like some of your ideas better! I don't see Lindsay turning out like this at all. We saw from her stoned babysitting episode that she is not cut out for serious freakdom. His version seems rather dark, but then, they knew early on they weren't going to get a second season, so maybe that colored his vision.

Millie went on to college, but didn’t really major in anything. She got a job in the city, met me on the street one day, I was biking, she was jogging. We hit it off, she soon moved in. And her wild child inner self was released. She is hot and smart and really a happy free spirited lady. She still can play “Jesus is Just all Right” on the piano, and loves all the Doobie Brothers songs, (I showed her my record collection) but after taking Comparative Religions in College she realizes Jesus is just a character in organized religions. She still doesn't smoke (good) but loves fine wines. At parties people still seek her out for conversation. She still wears those cute little sweaters.

That's so cute.

Does anyone else think that Neil would become a midget wrestler? Wasn't he about 4'3" as a high school student?

This topic comes up every several months here. I really see very ordinary lives for most of them and even prison for one (Daniel). The Geeks just don't strike me as the type that will go onto college and then into a high paying career. They just don't seem academically gifted although it is not entirely impossible. Neil will probably be the most successful but he will not go much higher than a lawyer that does wills, real estate closings, and other local level problems. He will be financially comfortable but not elite. Sam and Bill just do not impress me as far as hitting a home run in college and afterward. Sam will take over his dad's business and as the malls and later the internet ends the sporting goods store he will become a manager at a similar store at the mall then buy things to sell on ebay. Bill will probably score well enough on a civil service exam that he will wind up working for the state (of Michigan). Maybe Bill helps his old friend Sam out with a job when Sam gets desperate.
As stated before Daniel will do prison maybe even more than once. He will bounce from job to job and trailer park to trailer park. Ken will get a job with the town or sell new cars and use his dad's friends and associates as business contacts. It will take Kim till she is 30 to get her life together but she will get a stable factory worker job and own a lower middle class neighborhood home. She will have a few kids she will treat well. She will bounce from boyfriend but there will be that one she will always go back to for a time. Nick will be an assistant manager at some retail establishment and get tired of one gig after several years then move on to another retail job until his looks run out then he will stay at where ever place he is at. Lindsey will go to college and become a social studies teacher where she can dispense education along with her views of the world. She will also coach girl's soccer and basketball.

He is sometimes homeless, but can usually charm is way into a shelter when the weather gets bad. He continues to drink and use drugs for the rest of his life.

Nick – Joins the military, and starts to straighten up, but after being offered a joint at an off-base party, he gets popped on a drug test and discharged. He ends up in a series of menial jobs, and is arrested multiple times for low level drug possession (but never gets involved in anything heavier than marijuana).

Ken – Continues to be a slacker, but is able to live off his family.

Kim – Remains an alcoholic for the rest of her life. Has multiple arrests for assault as well as for beating her domestic partners. Bill – Grows into his gangly frame and becomes somewhat athletic in college – playing intramual sports and developing a lifelong hobby in cycling. He ends up as a high school teacher (or guidance counselor), and is one of the teachers that kids feel that they can share their problems with.
