Sucky ending!

I just watched this movie, and was so dissapointed in the ending. How could they not have her hook up with Viggo in the end. How unsatisfying. A total waste of my time.

The director said in the DVD commentary that they did NOT want Gwen to end up with Eddie because

1) That thing about not getting into a relationship right away

2) They didn't want the typical cheesy ending, where Gwen dumps one guy (Jasper) then jumps right into a relationship with Eddie. They thought it would be too hollywood-cliche, and I agree.

Personally I thought it ended perfectly.

reply

well maybe there will be a sequel....1825 days........which would equal 5 years where Gwen can date and her plant and dog/other pet may still be alive LOL that would be kind of good because then Eddie could go back into baseball and Gwen would go to one of the games and they would meet and Angels would sing jk...that sequel sounds pretty dumb. But 28 days was a great movie the ending is okay but not perfect

reply

Yeh, maybe Eddie will be at the end of his career and Gwen will be a sports reporter and she will be covering his big retirement bash and then they'll meet up afterwards and celebrate by getting stinking drunk and end up in rehab togther! How's that for a great run-on sentence.

Hey, here's a title---28 Mo' Days After 1825 Days! NOT!

reply

"...they'll meet up afterwards and celebrate by getting stinking drunk..."

TSK TSK TSK...didn't you listen to the titles of any of the lectures? One of them was "What's wrong with celebrating sobriety by getting drunk." ;-)

I was happy with the ending. i think it made perfect sense. I agree with anyone who liked it

reply

I really didn't like the idea of them getting together. But I've never seen the last 15 minutes of it. It gets too sad when *Spoiler* her roommate kills herself. I've never gotten past that part.

Oh, my god, they put my baby's face on a penis!

reply

It was a bit abrupt, but then i just presume that her life goes well, and that sometime in the future she does hook up with viggo.

reply

I like the fact that they didn't end up together. It made sense, and I was glad they didn't sell out. However, I thought they kind of rushed the ending. She hugs gerheardt(sp?) and all of a sudden the credits roll? I was thinking "Okay-is that it?". There needed to be closure, in my opinion- the ending was just missing something and I'm not sure what.

I would've like for Eddie and Gwen to meet-up again anyway. Even if it wasn't romantic! However, there was a little 'meanwhile, back at the clinic' clip while the credits were rolling at the end. It shows a limo pulling up in front of the clinic and the actor who was the star of the soap opera getting out. Eddie was there as asked him for his autograph. He looked at Eddie and made a sigh of annoyance and walked away. Eddie just tilted his head a bit and scrunched up his mouth real quick(One of Viggo's normal gestures), as if to say 'Oh Well'.

Now, if you watch this movie on a local cable channel like WGN, USA, or TBS, you don't get to see this because sometimes they don't even run the full credits! :(

flowerfatty or whatever his name is, is such an idiot. This movie ended perfectly. I'm not saying it was the movie of the year, but the ending was perfect. Gwen ditched Jasper, and ended up on her own. It was perfect and anyone who thinks they( Gwen and Jasper OR Gwen and Viggo) should have ended up together is just some retard who wanted this to be a romantic comedy. Sorry if that's harsh but it's true. If you paid attention to the movie at all, and have half a brain, you could figure out that the ending this movie had was the best one for the story.

Flowerfat is probably just some dumbass teen who rubs off to Viggo. Don't mind her.

I think the ending was perfect.

Nothing new to add really except one of the things that draws me back to the movie over and over is that it doesnt have a crappy cheesy hollywood 'everyone lives happily ever after'ending. OK even I know that this is a popcorn account of alcoholism and rehab and i think it was a shame that you didnt get to see any further than Gwen, Sandra Bullock's character just coming out of rehab because thats when the real battle begins, but it was great that it ended with the main female lead ending in a position of starting out being independent and self reliant. Personally i think there's no way she wouldn't fall of the wagon at least once but that's a whole other movie (come on Sandy you know you want to!!!!!!). Great curl up on the sofa movie. If you like this btw see murder by numbers another fab Bullock film

the bit that annoyd me most about the ending was that.. liek it was great that it wasnt a sappy cheesey romance happily ever after eniding.. but why do we care abotu gehardts character. why include him and not someone else. i just think it should have ended liek when she was walking away from jasper or i dunno doing something independant, not by meeting jsut one of the supporting characters. the movie was about her journey and the end didnt reflect this. it made it about gehardt as well... why him... why not.. that other sex crazy guy u kno...? do u kno? ....anyone agree?... i just thought it ruined the movie a bit... other than that it was gerat but:D

(but jsut by the by.. i did love gehardt.. he was classic!)

nobody's probably going to see this cause the original post is so old but, I was at a test screening for his movie before it came out and the ending that was in the theaters was not the original ending they filmed. In the original ending after she gets the plant she goes to the ballpark and sees Viggo's character at batting practice and they start talking. Him on one side of the fence and she on the other. They made it seem like they were going to hook up as they walked off together and the movie ended. On the response cards they gave us, my friend and i both put down we didn't like the idea that they get together. It just didn't work in the context of the movie, it didn't feel like it was earned. I was kinda surprised hat they actually did cut the scene, but I was more surprised at how abruptly they truncated everything after she got out of rehab, cause there was a lot of stuff they edited.

reply

I would generally agree that i would like to see them get together or have a romantic ending! But the movie isn't about finding love...it's about finding herself...and her new sobriety! I think it ended perfectly with her getting rid of jasper..and being alone...working on HERSELF!

Not all who wander are aimless.

reply

Hm...well I also completely wanted them to end up together in the end. But I was at the same time VERY happy to see that the ending was more realistic.

Eddie helped her see that Jasper isn't right for her...and he says that she'd be stupid to not still want to be his friend even though he messed up and slept with someone.

So I think in the long run...maybe they will be friends..maybe something more. But that's more wishful thinking on my part. I think what I really got from the end of the movie is that her character is going to be okay...and it's because of her friends (especially Eddie) that she is in a good place with only good things to come. I actually thought it was a powerful ending.

reply

I agree.

reply

I felt that way at the beginning, but looking back I think the ending was appropriate. Life doesn't always end up with a happy ending. I think we (as the viewers) should appreciate that Gwen was tempted (when she was in the bar with Jasper) and got through it, showing she has changed and is committed to keeping herself that way.

I kind of felt that Viggo sleeping with the girl after the fight, the doc with the traceotamy coming back and Andrea OD'ing was cliche, but I have known people in rehab and they say things like that are quite common.

I saw this movie for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised.

reply

It was not Sandra's insistence, it was in the script. Listen to the commentary on the DVD. It was never written for Viggo and Sandy to end up together.

Why should a woman have to jump from one relationship to another with no time for herself in between? If that sounds healthy to you then you are either a desperate whore or a really stupid woman with no brain.

Especially a recovering addict...

This movie was not a love story you idiots.

I would have been very disappointed if the movie had hooked her up with Viggo's character at the end. The movie is about her personal journey - she may be learning from the other people in rehab, but she doesn't have to bonk them to achieve that. I'm glad that they portrayed the character this way.

As for Viggo's character, he was too screwed up to be a suitable partner for her. I suppose the message that the ending gives is that getting your life back on track is an extremely personal journey, and you can't depend on anyone else to support you in that.

Go take a step outside - see what’s shaking in the real world.

Great ending! I freakin' loved the ending. I'm so glad the internet isn't my only friend. Geez.

I really don't see the point of them having the sexual tension and kissing, and then him telling her when he was at his worst, and her fighting with him, and him being angsty for her to then tell him times at her worst, to THEN have him punch out her then boyfriend because he was being a supreme asswad.

I just don't see how you have all of that in a movie, and then just leave it so open and have absolutely no closure.

I would have liked if it was like '1 year later' or something.. and her seeing him somewhere, and them just talking at a coffee shop or something.

THAT kind of open is good, this was just silly.

reply

I'm really glad they didn't have Gwen and the baseball guy hook up at the end. I spent pretty much the whole movie getting erections from her, and if they had fell in love, I'd think "Great. Now even drug addicts can get beautiful wives while I'll spend the rest of my life alone and unloved." So then I'd get an idea to start using drugs so I can go to rehab and meet some single drug addicts who might want to marry me because their brains are *beep* up from drugs. Then I'd realize that I'm too much of a pussy to do drugs so that plan would fail, and I'd go to my bedroom and contemplate suicide some more, knowing full well that I'm too much of a pussy to ever go through with it.

But since they didn't hook up, I can take solace in the fact that I'm not the only male on Earth that will be alone & unloved forever. Even if the only other people are a fictional character in a mediocre Sandra Bullock movie and MAYBE a couple of serial rapists.

So, yeah, I'm glad they didn't end up together.
