I went to my local Christian book store and roughly 70% of the films there are about the rapture. I am a Christian, but I don't believe in the rapture, so it's pretty frustratingto find a good Christian film that doesn't involve the rapture. Heck, my wife and I watched Unidentified and thought it was OK until the last 10 minutes when they threw they rapture into it. So, I ask, can anyone recommend any good Christian films that DON'T involve the rapture?
I haven't looked through the posts, so these might have already been recommended, but here goes. The Passion of the Christ; Luther (the newer one with Joseph Fiennes as Martin Luther), if you want a movie about the life of Christ Jesus of Nazareth is the most detailed but it's 6 hours long. There are some that don't deal with end-times events, they're just hard to find. If you're wanting a movie with a different view of the end times (i.e. a-millennial or post-millennial), I don't know what to tell you.
You might like my newest movie that comes out in April. It's called "Leap: Rise of the Beast". It's a Christian version of the Bourne series and takes the stance that the Vatican/papacy is the antichrist beast. It is an end times movie, but it isn't about the rapture. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Leap-Rise-of-the-Beast/104346386268889?ref=ts
What about Narnia? While "The Last Battle" deals in the end of Narnia, and thus parallels Biblical End of The World Theology, Lewis was Church of England and didn't really buy into the Rapture. The followers of Aslan even in The Last Battle didn't disappear out of Narnia till that world itself comes to an end. There was no Narnian Rapture!
And that movie's not been made yet!
That leaves The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader.
What about "Pilgrims Progress"? Or a film adaptation of Milton's "Paradise Lost". Faust has been made into film, and for Americans retold as "The Devil And Daniel Webster".
There is also “The Lord Of The Rings” Trilogy.
Oh, and what about “True Grit”, which while a brutal tale of Vengeance, has overarching Biblical Themes, groaned taken from the Old Testament.
If you include the OT as Christian, there is “The Ten Commandments” as someone else said, or the more recent “Prince Of Egypt”.
There is also “Esther”, a movie about, well, Esther.
There is also “Crusade: A March Through Time”, I don’t recall the Rapture mentioned in it at all.
Oh and there’s “War And Peace”, based on Tolstoy.
Or, anything really based on works by Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky.
The Apostle, form 1997, as well as “Paul” about the life of Paul.
There’s also “Grand Torino”.
Add “The Shawshank Redemption”.
What about the Biopic “Shadowlands”, about the life of C.S. Lewis?
Because of Winn-Dixie Is another good one.
One can add to this list “Babylon Five“, which has a surprising amount of Biblical Correlation even though its Creator, J. Michael Strazensky, is an Atheist. The same can be said for “Firefly” by Joss Wheden
One can also find Film Adaptations of McBeth, which has strong Christian Overtones, as does Hamlet.
Love Comes Softly is a series that I don’t think mentions the Rapture, though the organisation hat outs it out, the American Family Association, does hold to it. Warning though , this is more of a Chick Flick.
Speaking of which, what about “Angel And The Bad Man”?
Make sure is the John Wayne original not he crappy Remake.
Also, one can find "The Nativity Story" and several other movies from "The Last Temptation Of Christ" to D.W. Griffin's "The Passion" about the life of Jesus himself.
