Did Blade 3 Ruin The Blade Franchise ?

You have 2 great epic movies in Blade 1 and Blade 2

then the 3rd comes along, and completely screws everything up
I mean,B3 contradicts the 2nd,in saying that Reapers were not a mutation, but are original vampires, the reapers were interesting, becuase the Vampires had a new enemy, they should have kept them around, not just rip them off like that and leave them out,and it was just a cheesey movie, and last but not least,Triple H was in it,you know a movie is going to suck that a wrestler is in(with the exception of some of the Rocks movies),and the Drake charachter was also stupid,I cant believe that Wesley Snipes even wanted to be apart of the abomination that is Blade 3,its obvios that they didnt take the movie seriosly, and it ticks me off, cuase Blade could have been one of the better trilogies of all time, but now its not,Blade 3 has to be one of the worst 3rd movies of all time, and one of the worst movies all time period,I wish they didnt call it Blade 3,they should have called it "POS 3"!!!

now I can only enjoy the first 2,if I forget the 3rd one exists

so back to my question, did Blade 3,ruin the Blade movies ?

1) I choose to ignore blade trinity by any means possible(I block the imdb page)

2) For this moment where I acknowledge trinity. Trinity did not contradict Blade 2 reapers. Dracula while he had the reapers jaw was not a reaper himself. I assume that the reapers mutation brought back an old trait(the jawline). Kinda like how some children have traits of an old ancestor that hasnt shown for generations.

3) Blade 3 really put a stop to another blade movie for a while and was just a lousy end to the series. But the movie didnt ruin the first 2 films.

I also didn`t care for blade 3. I only like the two first ones. If they decide to make a fourth film, i think Blade should have no sidekicks like in the third.

reply

I liked Blade 3. It wasn't that bad really and I never really took any of them that seriously. Goyer probably shouldn't have directed though.

IMHO Blade 3 did ruin the series for me. The first two are damn respectable movies.

But in the 3rd they put too much comic releif (Ryan Reynolds whole character) and had a terrible villian. Frost and Nomak were both great villians, while drake was really lame and underwhelming.

Personally the villian thing just ruined it for me. By the thrid film everyone knows the hero in and out, so its up to the villian to bring the story out and bring it to new places... but instead number three just decided to bring in new sidekicks.

I agree free, I don't want Goyer to touch Blade if there is a sequel or reboot (I can't imagine as well). I still think that Goyer's a douche for not waiting for Del Toro to come back. (I watched The Dark Knight and Batman Begins because of Nolan....but I won't watch anything else he directs or writes...)

Excellent post free_manjr-2.

Blade: Trinity (2004) spoiled the series for me too. The first movie was good, despite the messed up ending. It started well, and Deacon Frost was a great villain. The second movie was good, despite the hinge-jawed wriggling-tongued mess: it finished well, Nomak was a strong villain, and the acting was acceptable or excellent throughout. I liked the vampire king and the royal tragedy. The third movie kept the hinge-jawed stuff and made it sillier with the dogs, had a weak story with a feeble ending (where they didn't even remember to rescue the girl), and had a pathetic villain (the fleeing baby-kidnapper). It's like a "lamest ideas" compilation of the series. Because of it, when series movies are discussed, I can't point to the Blade series as a good example.

NO KIDDING! How the hell could BLADE, for crying out loud, not know a human from a vampire!?!?!? That was beyond ridiculous!

I actually liked Ryan Reynolds' character in the film. He added the only decent humor in the movie - something Blade II lacked completely, any real humor at all. The first movie actually had a decent amount of humor, from Quinn. Both Ryan Reynolds' character and Quinn were similar in that they were rather goofy, but could be serious when it mattered. Overall, I think Blade III would be much more forgettable without him. Also, I liked the idea of a 'cured' vampire wanting revenge for what was done to him, etc.

Now, onto the movie's faults... well... yeesh. The whole FBI plot should've been thrown completely out the window, as it didn't go anywhere. The movie starts off with this whole big setup wherein Blade is framed as a serial killer - and Whistler dies (again!) fighting not vampires, as he should have, but the FBI! What an unfitting end to the character (of course, he should've stayed dead in the first movie). Then, ten minutes later, Blade gets busted out of custody and the whole FBI angle is dropped, so why bring it up in the first place? It's like they started to make one movie, then switched over halfway and decided to make a Dracula movie instead. It gives the whole thing a schizophrenic feel.

Jessica Biel's character was beyond retarded. She has a light saber and decides to sacrifice her hearing while in combat. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Nuff said.

I actually kinda liked the vampire villains of the movie (the ones who brought Dracula back), but Dracula's motivations are completely unclear. He doesn't seem to be on their side - he seems more interested in teaming up with Blade, because he feels that modern vampires are weak, shadows of what they used to be. And yet, he decides to let the weak modern vampires tell him what to do regardless - by attacking Blade's crew, etc. He has a shapeshifting ability that isn't really used for much of anything. We never really find out anything about him, his history, his motivations, what caused vampires to become weaker over time, where they all came from, etc.

This has got to be the most retarded comment I've seen in a long time. If people really were jealous, then why would it be Reynolds and not the tons of other guys with muscular bodies... like Snipes himself, or anyone else.

It could be the fact that Reynolds character is a stupid joke who acts as a clown for the entire movie and ruins any suspense in any scene he is in. Not to mention the fact that they mention, for no more than two seconds, that he used to be a vampire, then they cured him and now he works with them. Uh... WTF, there is a cure for vampirisim? Seriously? And instead of massproducing the cure and sending it through the entire city, they are killing themselves over some other crap? Really? Completely retarded.

Marvel's Dracula of the comics is way more powerful and has met Blade many times though the books but this version of Dracula also has fight alot of other Marvelverse heroes including right now the X-MEN

so i am surprised that Blade 3 turned Dracula into just a simple assasin for the present day vampires that was there to simply kill Blade for them and nothing else

reply

if the sense of the lone-wolf style, it completely ruined it....i mean wtf, I don't wanna see him team up with humans...he's badass enough to take on every vampire..and frankly..drakus could of put up a better fight...hell, deacon frost and reaper king was much better fights..didn't ruin the franchise..it just wasn't directed by the same director which figures why it sucked...even the soundtrack sucked, and i love rap

reply

Blade 3 totally completely sucked ass. David Goyer, who's a great writer, should stay as far away from the director's chair as possible.

Blade 3 is one of the worst movies ever made. What the hell were they thing sticking in Ryan Reynolds for comic relif and Jessica Beil. The direction, acting, story, characters were terrible. You can tell Snipes hated doing the movie just by looking at him on screen.I hope they do fourth movie and forget 3 ever happened.

Yea, to me Trinity ranks right down there with Spider-Man 3 and X-Men: The Last Stand for diassapointing threequels. It seems like Marvel has trouble with that third one. It's also a bit ironic that all three films followed, arguably, the highest points of each respective franchise. Along with a pretty weak story, a lackluster villain, and some subpar acting, (Parker Posey, HHH) New Line put Blade to the side to shoehorn the Nightstalkers in with hopes for spin-off potential. However, to me, all would have been forgiven had this movie had badass action scenes. I mean the franchise's trademark is the action. The first had the legendary club intro and Del Toro let his imagination run wild in the second. This one just sucked. Besides the fight and chase in the beginning, the fights are pretty generic. I wish they would have waited for Del Toro to come back or at least nabbed another action director.

To me Blade 3 is like Superman 3 & 4, Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift etc. Stupid films don't exist in my mind!

Yes it did... Blade 3 was the best example of great concept horrendously executed..

They had a great premise, yet they failed to execute in the most basic things (The cape and vest anyone?)

The expectations were pretty high after Blade II and having Goyer helm this was a horrid mistake.

The movie was cringeworthy from the get start. The cast was awful (HHH???GTFO) and the Villain was forgettable.. Not to mention the "help" for Blade which was ludicrous.

So yes, Blade III was the first nail in Blade's coffin (casting freaking STICKY FINGAZ AS BLADE for the tv show was the last Nail...)

reply

IMO Blade Trinity has some good parts to it but it jsut did not "gel" properly.

The editing seemed a bit weird and I agree Goyer's direction was not the best.

I wish Blade IV could be made with Snipes for Trinity's original concept by Goyer about a post apolocolyptic future.

The force will be with you always...

Blade III was an abomination. An insult to the franchise. "Dracula" was a joke. So cheesy they called him "Drake". All the added corny humor from Parker Posey and Ryan Reynolds didn't help. Triple H?? Why even bring him in if they're not gonna let him be a bad ass?? It seemed like a sabotage job. I mean didnt Goyer write all the screenplays? Why destroy your own franchise? Obviously he had a grudge against Snipes. If you listen to the Blade III commentary, you can hear him blatantly praising Snipes' double in a large number of scenes. No director would do that against the star. In earlier commentaries of Blade I & II, Goyer gives Snipes plenty of props and thumbs up. Very unprofessional.

The original concept for Blade III was incorporated into Daybreakers with Ethan Hawke.

reply

Yes with out a shadow of a doubt. Firstly casting Goyer in the directors chair, his first proper/major movie and is clearly overwhelmed by it all. It's also no secret Snipes was unhappy with the script and parts of the storyline (he was right by the way) and lastly, rumours that Blade 3 was set up for a new franchise, the nightstalkers. Infact I believe this to be true.

So yeah, Blade Trinity ruined the franchise is obvously the worst movie out of the 3.
